The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has announced wholesale passenger vehicle sales in our country for 2022. Manufacturers sold approximately 3.8 million vehicles which is a rise of over 23 % compared to the previous year, with SUVs and MPVs remaining the bestsellers. The demand for compact SUVs is outperforming the hatchbacks resulting in prolonged delivery dates as well. Such is the current scene of the sub-4-meter segment at the moment. Top 5 Selling List Of SUVs In 2022

The rising popularity of SUVs can be credited to the driving position being pretty commanding over the hatchbacks. Also, higher ground clearance, more boot space, and better terrain tackling capabilities.

So who all topped the charts of being the people's choice? Let's get straight to the list

1. Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon reigns supreme and proudly name itself as the Best Selling SUV in 2022. It sold a total of 1,68,278 units in 2022 as compared to 1,08,577 in 2021, registering a staggering 55% growth YoY. The victory is sweetened with a margin of almost 27,000 from the second-best-selling SUV.

The Tata Nexon is available with a 1.2L Turbo Petrol and a 1.5L Turbo Diesel engine. available with a 6-speed Manual and a 6-speed AMT.
The 1.2L Turbo Petrol engine makes 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque. The 1.5L engine in the Tata Nexon pushes out 110PS of power and 260Nm of torque.

2. Hyundai Creta

Hyundai with the Creta launch in 2014, took the market by storm. And the magic spell is still unbroken. The hot-selling Suv saw itself as the second-best-selling in 2021 with a sales figure of 1,40,895.

The Hyundai Creta is available with a 1.4L Turbo Petrol and a 1.5L NA Petrol and Turbo Diesel engine. The 1.4L Turbo Petrol engine is available with a 7-speed DCT Automatic transmission. The 1.5L Naturally Aspirated Petrol and Turbo Diesel engine get a 6-MT and a 6-AT as well.
The 1.4L Turbo Petrol engine makes 140PS of power and 242Nm of torque. The 1.5L engine in the Hyundai Creta makes 115PS of power and 250Nm of torque.

3. Maruti Suzuki Brezza

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza was a great seller by itself, all thanks to the product, as well as the trust, that Maruti Suzuki attained with the Indians. But to further boost its sales, it was given a major upgrade in terms of a facelift in June 2022, which helped bolster its place in the top 3 by selling 1,30,563 units in 2022 registering a growth of 13% when compared to 1,15,962 units sold in 2021.

4. Tata Punch

In just a little more than a year after its launch, Tata Punch has quickly risen to power and now holds a strong position in the sub-compact SUV scene. Tata sold 1,29,895 units of Punch in 2022 and sits at the fourth spot.

The Tata Punch gets one engine option, a 1.2L Naturally Aspirated Petrol engine with a 5-speed Automatic and a 5-speed MT. The Naturally Aspirated Petrol engine makes 86PS of power and 113Nm of torque.

5. Hyundai Venue

Hyundai finds itself again in the top 5 selling SUV category in 2022 with its urban appeal of the Hyundai Venue. It sold 1,20,703 units of Venue in 2022.

The Venue has 1 Diesel Engine and 2 Petrol Engines on offer. The Diesel engine is 1493 cc while the Petrol engine is 1197 cc and 998 cc with Manual & Automatic transmission.
