There are times when you might feel that you are not getting enough power as you expected in return from the force applied on the accelerator pedal of your car - it feels like there is a bit of loss of power. This happens when the acceleration of the vehicle is affected by a number of reasons. The loss in the acceleration power of the vehicle happens majorly due to the improper combustion of fuel in the engine. Apart from the combustion of fuel, the improper functioning of the throttle position sensor and throttle butterfly valve is also majorly responsible for the improper functioning of the car's accelerator. So, today we have listed for you the top six factors which might adversely affect the acceleration of a vehicle. Let's have a look at them.
The Dirty Fuel Filter and Fuel Injectors - Both the fuel filter, as well as fuel filter, are deposited with debris and dirt over a period of time, and if not replaced at the required time or scheduled service, they do get clogged completely, thus obstructing the flow of fuel through them, thus resulting in inappropriate combustion of fuel.
Faulty Ignition Coils and Spark Plugs - Ignition coil and spark plug too lose the ability of formation of spark in them over a certain period of time, which does lead to irregular combustion of fuel in the cylinder, often referred to as misfire. This does lead to jerky acceleration at times.
Slipper Clutch - At times, the gearbox is not able to have its connection formed with the engine due to a power loss caused by a slipper clutch, a possibility which happens due to loss of clutch fluid. This result in a loss in transfer of power, which is the reason why you might not get the desired output as per the force applied on the accelerator.

Electrical Problem - The electronic control unit (ECU) is the next complex thing after the engine, and if there is some fault which occurs to the throttle position sensor or any other sensor in general, such as crankshaft sensor, oxygen sensor, etc, it can result in the wrong flow of information, thereby resulting in improper action of the accelerator.
Dirty Air Filter - For proper combustion of fuel, an optimum amount of air is required, and if the air filters get dirty and clogged, the combustion of fuel will not be as desirable, thus resulting in jerky acceleration.
Improper Functioning of Butterfly Valve - The butterfly valve is the chief component in the throttle body, which decides the amount of air to be entered in the intake manifold. If the butterfly valve is stuck in one position, the flow of air is affected, and the acceleration will not happen as desired.
