Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Design
Built on Toyotas 27PL platform, which shares its foundation with Suzuki's Heartect-e architecture, the Urban Cruiser EV is distinctive in its design. It features a bold front profile with angular headlamps and a sporty grille, complemented by extra body cladding. At the rear, the SUV sports a sleek light bar stretching across the tailgate, giving it a futuristic aesthetic.
The SUV measures 4,285 mm in length and boasts a 2,700 mm wheelbase. It also features a tight turning radius of 5.2 meters for improved handling. The cabin is designed for flexibility, including a sliding rear seat arrangement to maximize interior space.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Battery Pack
The Urban Cruiser EV is available with two battery configurations:
- 49 kWh Pack: This version, offered with a front-wheel-drive setup, produces 144 horsepower and 189 Nm of torque.
- 61 kWh Pack: Available in both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations. The FWD version delivers 174 horsepower, while the AWD variant generates 184 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. The AWD model also includes an additional rear motor, features such as Trail and Snow driving modes, and Downhill Assist.
Interior Comfort and Technology
The Urban Cruiser EV's cabin is designed to prioritize both driver and passenger comfort. The horizontal dashboard layout enhances forward visibility, while the elevated seating position ensures a commanding road view. The ambient lighting system allows users to customize the atmosphere with 12 colour options, adding a personal touch to the interior environment.
The dashboard panel integrates a 10.25-inch instrument cluster with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This setup is complemented by wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto which offers smartphone integration. Additional features include a JBL sound system, automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a fixed panoramic sunroof, enhancing the luxury and convenience of the driving experience.
Safety and Assistance Features
Toyota has equipped the Urban Cruiser EV with a robust suite of advanced safety features. These include a collision prevention system to mitigate accidents, adaptive cruise control for a stress-free highway drive and lane departure warning with lane-keeping support to enhance road safety. A 360-degree camera further improves driver awareness, making parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces more manageable.

The Urban Cruiser EV is positioned to compete with other electric SUVs such as the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV700 EV, and Maruti Suzukis e Vitara. Toyota aims to differentiate itself with its robust feature set and reputation for reliability.
India Launch and Production Details
Toyota plans to launch the Urban Cruiser EV in India by late 2025, with manufacturing taking place at Suzukis plant in Gujarat. Pre-orders have already begun in select global markets, with deliveries expected soon after.
