Toyota Kirloskar Motors was recently spotted testing the Yaris hatchback on the Indian roads. Though the sedan Yaris did not manage to overcome its rivals, will the hatchback one see better results if it ever makes it to our market?
Well, before you get your hopes high, allow us to inform you that it doesn't look like the carmaker has any intention to launch this model here. The reason for this test mule plying on Indian road could be simply some component testing. Indian road conditions provide a good testbed to most carmakers and it's not uncommon to spot such international models running on our roads on test duty.

As seen from the spy shots, the Toyota Yaris hatchback carries a unique design language with a roof-mounted spoiler, shark fin antenna, curved tail lamps, connected by a glass slab, sporty bumper, and skid plates. The car upfront looks similar to its sedan version and the side profile is also quite simple with no particular design creases. The overall appearance of the hatch looks different. The wheels of the car were seen equipped with regular steel rim
Built on the GA-B platform, the Toyota Yaris hatchback measures under 4 metres in length which marks a noticeable change in the Toyota hatchback's dimensions as compared to those of its predecessor.
In the global markets, Toyota offers three powertrain options with its hatchback Yaris. The 1.0-litre petrol engine churns out 116 bhp maximum power and 120 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5-litre petrol engine generates 118 bhp maximum power and 140 Nm of peak torque. The last but not least, a 1.5-litre petrol hybrid motor produces 195 bhp and 261 Nm of peak torque.

This seems quite unlikely considering the fact that Toyota India already has a contender for the premium hatchback segment in the country: Toyota Glanza, which is doing fairly well in India and garnering enough sales for the automaker.
If launched in India, it would compete against cars such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, and of course, the Toyota Glanza as well. Upcoming Hatchback Yaris if launched might attract the market.
