Triumph Motorcycles has just unveiled the new Triumph Tiger 850 Sport. The new Tiger 850 Sport replaces the base Tiger 900 in the global markets. In India, it will sit below the Tiger 900 Series (Tiger 900 GT to be precise) and will be priced very competitively. Though it will be priced significantly lesser than the Tiger 900 GT, there are a lot of similarities and part-sharing between these two motorcycles. In this article, we have for you everything you need to know about the upcoming 2021 Triumph Tiger 850 Sport.
Starting with the heart of the matter, i.e. the powertrain. The new Triumph Tiger 850 Sport gets the same engine as the Tiger 900 Series but it has been detuned to deliver slightly lesser power and torque figures. It gets a BS6-compliant 888cc, liquid-cooled, inline 3-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that churns out 85 PS of power at 8500 RPM and 82 Nm of peak torque at 6500 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It gets a slip and assist clutch as standard and a bi-directional quickshifter is offered as an official accessory. In comparison, the Tiger 900 Series pumps out 95 PS of power at 8750 RPM and 87 Nm of peak torque at 7250 RPM.
Triumph also claims that the engine of the Tiger 850 Sport has been tuned differently to provide a smooth and linear power and torque delivery right from low engine speeds and across the rev range. It also gets two different riding modes - Rain and Road. These modes adjust the ride-by-wire throttle response and traction control system (switchable) for enhanced control in all riding conditions. Just like the Tiger 900 Series, the new Tiger 850 Sport is also based on a new lightweight split trellis frame with a bolt-on-rear aluminium subframe and bolt-on pillion hangers. The motorcycle has a dry weight of 192 kilograms and gets a 20-litre fuel tank.

For superior stopping power, it gets class-leading Brembo Stylema brakes. At the front, it gets twin 320 mm floating discs with four-piston monobloc callipers and a 255 mm single disc unit at the rear with a single-piston sliding calliper. It also gets dual-channel ABS as standard.
The new Tiger 850 Sport gets an ergonomically optimised footrest position with a comfortable upright riding position, angle adjustable handlebars and an adjustable fly-screen. It gets a 100/90 section 19-inch tyre at the front and 150/70 section R17-inch tyre at the rear and gets alloy wheels. It also gets a 5.0-inch full TFT display, all-LED lighting, 12V power socket, etc. There are over 60 genuine Triumph accessories too for the motorcycle.
