So, what TVS has done is that it has increased the prices to compensate the pricing of charger. The charger of iQube costs Rs 9,450 but now it they can't charge customers for it. TVS was recently found falsely crunching on money from customers for the charger. As per the rules & regulations, charger are included in the cost of buying. However, it was found that TVS and Ather, Ola, & even Hero were taking advantage of this unchecked rule. Now, TVS has already returned the money it owed to its customers. As per TVS, it owed less than Rs 1,700 per customer. TVS says that it is balancing out the customers who've spent more than Rs 1.50 lakh.
Now, the latest price hike is done to recover the cost of the charger. TVS, like other electric scooter makers, has now started distributing the chargers free of cost. To maintain this cost-benefit ratio, the prices of it are now up by Rs 9,000. Hence, the e-scooter now costs Rs 1.21 lakh ex-showroom in Bangalore. The FAME subsidy for it is Rs 50,000. However, in some states, additional state subsidy of Rs 17,000 is being provided. Hence, its effective cost in Delhi is now Rs 1.06 lakh only.
Verdict
The recent price hike has made the iQube even more costlier than before. But, the fact that it gets a solid build quality and loads of features can't be ignored. Additionally, it is considerably priced lower than its direct rivals like Ather 450X & Ola S1 Pro.
