TVS Motor Co. today launched the Raider, a new commuter motorcycle positioned in the 125cc segment. It is targeted at first-time motorcycle buyers looking for a stylish-yet-economical commuter. The TVS Raider 125 is priced at Rs 77,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it marks TVS' new innings in the 125cc class of the Indian motorcycle market.
The TVS Raider will lock horns with motorcycles like the Bajaj Pulsar 125, Honda SP 125 and Hero Glamour Xtec. In the South India-based motorcycle manufacturer's portfolio, the new model will be found placed between the Radeon 110 and the Apache RTR 160 4V. It is powered by a 124.8cc single-cylinder fuel-injected 3-valve engine that is capable of producing 11.22 bhp of maximum power at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 11.2 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The motor comes mated to a 5-speed transmission. The company claims that the new 125cc engine comes with several patented technologies for high thermal efficiency and heat management.
The new TVS 125cc offering even comes equipped with several modern features. It has LED headlights with LED DRLs, LED taillights and LED turn indicators. It also features digital instrumentation, a split seat setup, alloy wheels shod with tubeless tyres, and disc brakes as well. Furthermore, the motorcycle comes with a single-piece grab rail and 3D Logo on the sporty side panels and fuel tank extensions.
The segment-first features it comes with include LCD display, ride modes, voice assist and a 3-valve engine. Its coloured TFT display packs digital document storage and voice assist functions. TVS Raider also comes with Bluetooth connectivity to make it the most advanced offerings in its segment. TVS has also introduced a start/stop button known as IntelliGo.
The new 125cc commuter is designed with a global outlook, which suggests that the company would aim to export the Raider to select global markets. It has a 780mm seat height, which is pretty much enough for even short riders. It has a ground clearance of 180mm, which is, again, sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions.
