The fact that Suzuki is developing an electric two-wheeler for the growing e-scooter market in India is not hidden anyhow. Confirming this, are the new spy shots of the upcoming 2022 Suzuki Burgman electric scooter which was spotted on the outskirts of Delhi city testing. Suzuki is soon going to join the league of the e-scooter and EV makers in India with the introduction of its Burgman e-scooter.
The upcoming e-scooter is based on the ICE-powered Burgman 125 scooter which Suzuki sells in the Indian market. The overall design of the new e-scooter is very similar to the petrol engine-powered scooter. While the front facia and the overall design language might comprehend once to the petrol-powered Burgman; the e-scooter features an interesting design and engineering aesthetic in the typical Japanese manufacturing way.

For regular e-scooters available in the Indian market, one can notice the electric motor is either attached to the swingarm or directly mounted to the rear-wheel hub for power delivery. The upcoming Burgman e-scooter features a unique under-seat motor drivetrain placement which is connected to the motor via a chain drive setup.
Other changes to notice in the new spy shots are the new dual-shock springs at the rear end for countering the additional weight from the battery pack. This shall also provide a comfortable ride quality to future owners. Suzuki has also replaced the rear reflector above the mudguard. A rear-tyre hugger has also been provided to keep the debris away from the battery pack and motor.

Another feature to notice is the all-digital instrument cluster which is expected to feature a touchscreen along with Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone connection. Suzuki might also introduce features such as multiple riding modes, reverse assist, and Google maps as well.
Despite being asked multiple times about their EV development program in India; Suzuki has not revealed a single detail about any of their EV projects. Hence, there are no details available about this upcoming e-scooter from Suzuki but we anticipate it to use a battery pack between 3-4 kW and a motor between 4-6 kW of capacity.
Once launched, the Suzuki Burgman electric will directly rival the likes of Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, Ola S1 Pro, etc.
