Upcoming Electric SUVs: Top 10 e-SUVs Coming To India

The automotive industry is evolving at a brisk rate and we are seeing a new innovation every once in a while. Amidst all this, to cause the least destruction on the environment and to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, manufacturers around the globe are working to introduce electric vehicles. In India, there are a number of upcoming electric SUVs lined up to be launched, and which one comes with what package? Lets find out.

Mahindra eKUV100

Expected Price: Rs 8.5 Lakh

Equipped with a 16kWh Li-ion battery, the Mahindra eKUV100 was showcased at the AutpExpo 2020. The claimed range of the car is said to be 150 kms on a single car. A fast charger can charge the battery to 100% in an hour while a regular charge will take six hours to fully charge the battery. The motor boasts 54.4 hp and 120 NM of power output, which is more than enough to drive a vehicle of this class. The Mahindra eKUV100 is expected to remain one of the cheapest electric SUVs in the Indian market.

Audi e-Tron

Expected Price: Rs 1.4 Crore (estimated)

The car was recently revealed in the Indian market and gets a 95kWh battery pack which gives this vehicle a maximum of 400km+ range. In terms of power output, the car gets two electric motors, one for each axle which generates a combined output of 355 hp and 561 Nm of peak torque in the normal mode. In this mode, the car can go from 0kmph to 100 kmph in 6.6 secs. The car also gets a boost mode in which the car generates about 47 hp and 103 Nm more power and boasts a 0-100 kmph timing of just 5.7 secs! A standard AC charger or a quick charger can be used to charge the vehicle. While charging time taken by the AC charger is yet to be revealed, the quick charger can charge the battery up to 80 percent in 30 mins. In addition to this, the car will be heavily feature-loaded and will come with almost all the bells and whistles and is expected to be priced around Rs 1.4 crore mark in the country. This will be one of the most expensive electric SUVs to be launched in India.

Mercedes-Benz EQC

Expected Price: Rs 80 Lakh - 1 Crore

Expected to be launched in the Indian market in the next few months, the Mercedes-Benz EQC is a power-packed vehicle that gets a dual-motor setup. The combined output from these motors will be around 400 bhp and the peak torque is estimated to be around 765 Nm. The 400 4MATIC variant of the EQC is expected to be launched in the country. Powering the motors will be an 80 kWh battery and the maximum range will be somewhere around 470 km. In terms of performance, this car will reach 100 kmph mark from a standstill in just 5.1 secs!

Jaguar i-Pace
Electric SUVs

Expected Price: Rs 1 Crore

An attractive design, powerful motors, and a 0-100kmph time of under 4.8 secs are some of the strong points that this modern electric SUV will come with. Yes, you guessed it right. The 2020 Jaguar i-Pace is another such vehicle which will be coming to the country soon. Just like other luxury SUVs, this too will be powered by a twin-motor setup which is more than enough to churn out around 400 PS of maximum power. A 90 kWH battery will be powering this beautiful beast and will give it a maximum range of 470 kms. As per the company's claims, a 50kW DC charger will give this battery enough charge for another 270 KMs in one hour. On the other hand, a regular 7kW AC socket charger will charge 80% of the battery in 10 hours.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric

Expected Price: Rs 15-17 lakh

It's a no secret to anyone that Mahindra is working on developing an all-electric XUV300 for the Indian market. This car will be based on the sub-4m XUV300 and will hit the showrooms early next year. The car will be powered by around 130 hp electric motor which will get its electricity from a 40kWh battery pack. The claimed range of this vehicle is nearly 300 km on a single charge. Code-named as S210, this vehicle will come with AC as well as DC fast-charging capabilities.

Nissan Leaf

Expected Price: Rs 30-40 lakh

The next car in the list is already available on sale in more than 50 countries and will be launched in India by end of this year or early next year. The car gets a EM57 electric motor which churns out 150 PS and 320 Nm of peak torque. This motor is powered by a 40kWh Li-ion battery which takes 16 hours to be fully charged when charged by a regular 3 kW charger while a 6kW charger will take about 8 hours. On the other hand, the battery can be charged to 80% in just 40 minutes when charged via a quick charger. The maximum claimed range of this vehicle is said to be 400 kms.

Kia Soul EV
Electric SUVs

Expected Price: Rs 25-30 Lakh

Now in its second generation, the Kia Soul EV is one of the funkiest looking electric SUVs that is about to be launched in the Indian market. The car gets a single motor powertrain developing around 201 hp and 395 Nm of peak torque which helps this car to reach 0-100 kmph mark in 7.6 secs. Powering this motor will be a 64 kWh battery pack which gives it a maximum range of 452 kms.

BMW i3

Expected Price: Rs 1.0 Crore

This BMW i3 is one of the most awaited cars to be launched in the Indian market and we expect the brand to launch it by early 2021. The car is powered by a 33kWh battery pack which generates enough power to drive the 184 PS motor for a maximum range of 280 km. The peak torque output from this motor is enough to make this car reach 100 kmph mark in just 6.9 secs.

Tata Sierra EV

Expected Price: Rs 15-30 Lakh

After the success of the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Motors is all set to start the works on the Sierra EV. While not much is known about this car, powertrain, or the battery pack, we do expect the company to equip this car handsomely to take on the rivals. The car is expected to be launched in mid-2021.

Maruti Suzuki Futuro-E
Electric SUVs

Expected Price: Rs 9 Lakh

Maruti unveiled the Maruti Suzuki Futuro-E concept in the 2020 AutoExpo and may just be one of the smallest electric SUVs of the country. Just like the Sierra, we do not have a conclusive report about the details of the vehicle, but we do expect the brand to launch it by end of 2021 and the prices may be starting at around INR 9 lakh.
