The popularity of Tata Nexon.EV, Hyundai Kona EV and MG ZS EV have shown the acceptance of electric SUVs in the Indian car market. Despite having a niche presence for now, the surge in sales of electric SUVs has paved the path for many new electric SUVs from other mainstream car makers. As a result, several new midsize electric SUVs under Rs 25 lakh are on their way in the next year. Here is our list of upcoming electric SUVs for the Indian market.
Tata Curvv.EV
Expected launch date: August-September 2024
Expected Price : Rs 15 lakh onwards
Tata Motors showcased the diesel version of the Curvv SUV-coupe in a near-production form at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. However, Tata will first launch in its all-electric avatar and will retain the design of the ICE version of the Curvv but with EV-specific elements and highlights. Like the Punch.EV, the upcoming Tata Curvv.EV will be based on Acti.EV is an electric platform with a floor-mounted battery and a front-mounted electric motor. While the motor and battery specifications are still under wraps, expect them to be better than the currently on-sale Tata Nexon.EV Long Range version.
Hyundai Creta EV
Expected launch date: Early 2025
Expected Price : Rs 20 lakh onwards
Ever since the launch of the facelifted second-generation Hyundai Creta, the sightings of the test mule of its all-electric version have happened more often. Expected to replace the ageing Kona EV, the new Hyundai Creta EV will share many exterior design elements like LED headlamps and tail lamps with connected LED light bars. However, it will get a front-mounted charging slot, a different set of alloy wheels and some EV-specific highlights and an instrument console. The new Creta EV is expected to have a front-mounted electric motor and a 50-60kWh battery pack with an estimated range of up to 500 km.
Maruti Suzuki eVX
Expected launch date: Early 2025
Expected Price : Rs 20 lakh onwards
Another electric SUV in its final stages of testing ahead of its launch is the production version of the Maruti Suzuki eVX concept that was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. The first-ever all-electric vehicle from Maruti Suzuki, the eVX might have a different name once it goes on sale in India. The production version of the eVX will have a toned-down design compared to its concept version, though it will retain much of its silhouette, stance and dimensions. Expected to get new-age screens, a 360-degree camera and an ADAS suite of safety features, the Maruti Suzuki eVX will be based on Toyotas 27PL born-electric platform. It will be available with two battery options a 60kWh battery with a 450-500 km range and a 48kWh battery with a 350-400 km range.
Mahindra BE 05
Expected launch date: End of 2024
Expected Price : Rs 20 lakh onwards
Mahindras born-electric SUV, the BE 05, has been spied several times during the trial runs along with XUV.e8 and XUV.e9, all of which are expected to be launched within a year from now. Compared to the XUV.e9, a coupe derivative of the XUV.e8, which is the all-electric version of the XUV700, the Mahindra BE 05 will have a skateboard architecture for its platform. To go on sale with a 79kWh battery pack with a 550-600 km range, the Mahindra BE 05 SUV-coupe will be available with both two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
MG ZS EV facelift
Expected launch date: End 2024
Expected Price : Rs 19 lakh onwards
In March 2024, MG revised the ZS EV's prices, features and variant lineup, making it a more affordable and exciting product than before. However, MG might bring a heavily updated version of the ZS EV towards the end of 20254 alongside the facelifted Astor. Like the updated MG Astor, which is confirmed to arrive in the coming months, the facelifted MG ZS EV will also get a reworked front profile, a new cabin design, and a few additional features. However, expect the current 129kW front-mounted motor and 50.3kWh battery, which claims a range of 462 km, to remain intact in the facelifted version of the MG ZS EV.
Leapmotor C10
Expected launch date: End of 2024/Early 2025
Expected Price : Rs 25 lakh onwards
Chinese carmaker Leapmotor has confirmed its arrival in the Indian market towards the end of 2024 with two products the TO3 hatchback and the C10 SUV. Among these two EVs, the C10 will be the more expensive product from Leapmotor, a midsize SUV that measures as big as midsize SUVs like Tata Harrier and MG Hector. The India-spec Leapmotor C10 will have negligible changes over its globally available version, which comes with a 69.9kWh battery pack with a range of up to 530 km. Expect the Leapmotor C10 to be priced at a premium above the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki eVX.
Tata Harrier.EV
Expected launch date: End 2024
Expected Price : Rs 22 lakh onwards
Tata Motors showcased the Harrier.EV in a near-production guise at the 2023 Auto Expo, which was expected to go on sale in the first half of 2024. However, with much focus on the launch of Curvv before the festive season, the launch of Tata Harrier.EV has been delayed for a few months. The electric version of the Tata Harrier will now go on sale by the end of 2024, along with the petrol-powered variants of the SUV. Tata Motors has not disclosed the battery and motor specifications of the Harrier.EV. However, it will be Tata Motorss first-ever all-electric SUV with an all-wheel drive configuration, courtesy of its dual-motor setup.
Tata Sierra.EV
Expected launch date: End 2025
Expected Price : Rs 22 lakh onwards
Another Tata product in this list of upcoming electric SUVs will also be one of the best looking ones at launch! The Sierra was another midsize SUV concept showcased by Tata Motors at the 2023 Auto Expo.EV concept. Tata Motors has confirmed that the Sierra.EV concept will enter into production and will most likely be based on the new Acti.EV born-electric platform. The new Tata Sierra.EV will be a one-of-its-kind lifestyle electric SUV once it launches in 2025. While the design patent of the new Sierra.EV was leaked on the web a few weeks ago, not much is known about the battery and motor configurations.
Mahindra Thar EV
Expected launch date: End 2025
Expected Price : Rs 20 lakh onwards
The most rugged and adventure ready model in this list of upcoming electric SUVs is this one! Mahindra showcased the bold-looking Thar EV concept in August 2023, an entirely different take compared to the ICE version of the Thar in design. Mahindra is said to be working on the production version of the Thar EV concept, which will have a different design inspired by the Thar EV concept. It will also have new electric powertrains, confirming an all-wheel drive version. The Mahindra Thar EV will be a direct rival to the Tata Sierra EV, which will also arrive by 2025-end.
Honda Elevate EV
Expected launch date: End 2025
Expected Price : Rs 18 lakh onwards
The last model in this list of upcoming electric SUVs will come from Honda. At the time of the launch of Elevate in 2023, Honda confirmed that the SUV will also get an all-electric version in 2025. While nothing about the design and powertrain of the Honda Elevate EV is known for now, it will retain the exterior and interior design with EV-specific design elements.
