Soon after the Mahindra-Ford JV formed in October 2019, both the companies started their work in multiples areas of cooperation. As per the reports that we have, the two companies are working on three all-new SUVs and a new MPV which will be sold in the Indian market. In addition to the C-SUVs which the brands are working on, Mahindra is also planning to launch an all-new mid-sized SUV, likely to be named as XUV400. The upcoming Mahindra XUV400 will be powered by 1.5-L turbocharged petrol and diesel engines and will be launched in the first quarter of 2021.
Internally codenamed as the Mahindra S204, the upcoming Mahindra XUV400 is expected to be powered by the Mahindra's G15 1.5-L turbocharged petrol engine. The brand unveiled this engine at the Auto Expo 2002. The power output for this engine stands at 163 bhp while peak torque put up by the engine is 280 Nm. The same engine powers the SsangYong Korando SUV which is sold abroad.

The same powertrain options and underpinnings will be used by Ford B745. The Ford B745 will also compete in the same segment and will be launched sometime later after the launch of the XUV400.
The upcoming Mahindra XUV400 will be positioned between the XUV300 and the upcoming XUV500. The cars will either have FWD or AWD drivetrain depending on the variant and the market they are being sold in. The upcoming Mahindra XUV400 will get its rivals in the form of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, and other SUVs competing in this segment.
