Yes, the local production of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been started but that is only for the global markets. Yes, a sample of 50 units that are locally produced before being exported to the international markets. The Jimny has gained its popularity like a wildfire that for some countries the waiting period sticks to 18 months.

It is believed that both three and five-door versions of the Suzuki Jimny is being assembled in India. The budget-friendly SUV will replace the discontinued Gypsy and will be offered with a humble petrol engine but with an all-wheel-drive system as standard.
Sharing the details on the engine then the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit will generate as much as 103 bhp with a peak torque of 138 Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox will come as standard and for the automatic, a 4-speed torque converter unit will be observed.

While India is ready for the five-door version as it makes much more sense, a 3-door version might also come which will clearly be easy to manufacture. Since the 2020 Thar is also a 3-door version, we can expect Maruti to bring the latter only. As of now, the prices of the SUV are not yet confirmed but we expect it to stick between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 14 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
