In 2020, we have seen numerous car launches in India but most of them were SUVs. Starting with the likes of all-new Hyundai Creta, all-new Mahindra Thar, the Kia Sonet, updated Harrier, Nissan Magnite, the list goes on. But which cars, especially SUVs will we get to see next year? Here is a list of 14 upcoming SUVs in 2021 that include facelifted versions and all-new vehicles.
Tata HBX
Expected Price: Rs 4.5 to 6.5 lakh
The most affordable upcoming SUV in India will be the Tata HBX. This is a code name and we aren't aware as of now, what the model will formally be called as. What we do know is that this micro SUV will be positioned below the Nexon and will rub shoulders with cars like the KUV100 and the Ignis. It will make use of a 1.2-litre petrol motor that we also see in the Tiago and Tigor. Both manual and AMT gearbox options will be offered and pricing should start at around the Rs 4.5 lakh mark. The HBX was first shown at the 2020 Auto Expo and did turn a lot of eyeballs due to the outlandish concept design.
Renault Kiger
Expected Price: Rs 6-9 lakh
Renault will launch its first sub-4m compact SUV in the Indian market next year. The manufacturer has already released a few teaser images of the vehicle. The all-new Kiger will be Renault's version of the Nissan Magnite and will get the same platform and engine options. This means a 1000cc engine in both non-turbo and turbo forms. In terms of affordable upcoming SUVs in 2021, this one will be worth waiting for.
Skoda Vision IN
Expected Price: Rs 11-16 lakh
The Skoda Vision IN concept was revealed in the Indian market earlier this year. Since Skoda is spearheading the India 2.0 strategy for the Volkswagen Group, the Vision IN will become the first car based on the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform. Skoda has started testing the production version of the Vision IN on the Indian roads. The all-new mid-size SUV will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the Indian market. It is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine while lower versions will get the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
MG ZS petrol
Expected Price: Rs 11-16 lakh
MG Motors launched the all-new ZS EV in the Indian market earlier this year. It is the brand's first electric vehicle and it is a mid-size SUV. MG will launch the petrol version of the ZS EV. MG will use a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine but there are chances of the car getting a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine too. There will be minor design updates on both the exteriors and interiors.
Citroen C5 AirCross
Expected Price: Rs 22-26 lakh
The French manufacturer Citroen will officially launch its first vehicle in the Indian market next year. It will be a CKD unit that will be assembled locally because of which the price will be higher than the competitors. Citroen will offer two diesel engine options with the AirCross - a 1.5-litre unit and a 2.0-litre unit.
All-new Mahindra XUV500
Expected Price: Rs 12-18 lakh
After launching the all-new Thar, Mahindra is working on the all-new XUV500. The new vehicle is testing all over India and there are enough spy shots of the vehicle too. The upcoming XUV500 will be based on an all-new platform that will also underpin future Ford cars in India. It will come with a long list of features and the most interesting highlight is the cabin that will get a dual-screen set-up just like the modern-day Mercedes-Benz vehicles. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine.
All-new Mahindra Scorpio
Expected Price: Rs 11-15 lakh
Apart from the Mahindra XUV500, the all-new Scorpio is also on the cards as it is getting old now. There is numerous time when the all-new Scorpio has been caught testing on the roads. The all-new Scorpio will be much bigger than the current version, which will provide extra legroom in the third row. The same petrol and diesel engine options will power the all-new Scorpio that powers the Thar but the diesel engine will produce much more power than the Thar.
Hyundai Creta 7-seat
Expected Price: Rs 12-18 lakh
The all-new Hyundai Creta has made it big on the sales charts and now Hyundai is working on a longer, 7-seat version of the vehicle. Hyundai will name it Alcazar as per the file name but the name can change at the time of the launch. The longer version of the Hyundai Creta will have a similar look but a longer wheelbase. The engine and transmission options of the Creta and the seven-seater version will be similar too.
Tata Gravitas 7-Seater
Expected Price: Rs 14-20 lakh
Tata launched the updated version of the Harrier earlier this year. The Harrier now offers a long list of features that were not available with the car earlier. Tata is now working on the seven-seater version of the Harrier. It will be launched in 2021 and will share the engine and transmission options with the Harrier. There will be a different colour treatment for the interiors though.
Tata Hexa BS6
Expected Price: Rs 12-16 lakh
Tata showcased the BS6 version of the Hexa at the 2020 Auto Expo. Hexa is not available in the market at the moment due to the emission norms. Tata will not make too many changes in the BS6 version. Instead, the Hexa can get a few updated features to keep up with the times. A 4x4 will be offered for the lower priced mid-level versions too.
BS6 Force Gurkha
Expected Price: Rs 10-14 lakh
After the launch of all-new Thar, Force Motors is working to bring out the all-new Gurkha. The Indian manufacturer revealed the all-new Gurkha at the 2020 Auto Expo and planned to launch the vehicle this year. However, due to the COVID-19 related delays, the launch will now happen next year. The new Gurkha is based on a new ladder-frame chassis and looks very similar to the last-generation model. Force will continue to use the 2.6-litre diesel engine even with the all-new Gurkha.
Jeep Compass facelift
Expected Price: Rs 16-22 lakh
Jeep's most affordable vehicle in India - Compass will soon get an update. The Compass will be launched next year and will offer an updated grille and headlamps. The headlights will be all-LED units but the rear design of the updated Compass remains under covers. On the inside, Jeep will offer a redesigned dashboard, a new touchscreen unit, and many new features to keep up with the competition.
MG Hector facelift
Expected Price: Rs 13-18 lakh
MG launched its first vehicle - the Hector last year in the Indian market. It remains a popular choice and sells much higher than the likes of Tata Harrier at the present. MG is testing the facelifted version of the Hector, which will get a few changes including a new or tweaked infotainment system. The new Hector will continue to offer the same engine and transmission options as the present version.
Toyota Fortuner BS6
Expected Price: Rs 30-36 lakh
Toyota will launch the updated version of the Fortuner in the Indian market next year. The new Fortuner is already available in the Thailand market. The new Fortuner gets a few visual updates that make it look fresh in the market. Toyota is testing the Fortuner without any camouflage on the Indian roads. The SUV gets a more powerful version of the 2.8-litre four-cylinder engine that produces a maximum of 204 PS and 500 Nm in the Thailand market. The Indian version will get similar power and torque figures.
