A few months back, it came to the limelight that India's fifth-largest two-wheeler manufacturer 'Suzuki' has developed a prototype electric scooter. The testing of the prototype E-scooter was about to begin this year and it was expected to launch in early 2021. However, the recent outbreak of novel coronavirus has forced the OEMs to push their new developments and launches at a later phase but it seems that Suzuki is still working on its upcoming spin-off. Recently, the patent images of the upcoming Suzuki Electric Scooter has surfaced online revealing some details about it.

The patent images of the upcoming Suzuki Electric Scooter hints that the Japanese bike manufacturer is aiming to sell it in price-sensitive markets like ours. Also, previous reports say that it will be Made In India for India and exported to some other international markets too. The new Suzuki E-scooter looks compact and affordable and strictly meant for intra-city commutes. The scooter will boast of simplistic design elements to attract conventional scooter buyers.
The upcoming Suzuki Electric Scooter is currently in its initial phase of development and the leaked patent images hint that it will bear resemblance to conventional ICE-powered scooters. The E-scooter features a steel underbone chassis like regular scooters but it has been reinforced using pressed steel plates to ensure structural rigidity. The images also hint that the battery-pack of the buggy will be placed under the seat and it might come with swappable solutions.
The Electric Scooter will also use a proper double-sided swingarm like most other scooters. The leaked images reveal that for suspension duties it will get telescopic forks at the front and spring-loaded shock-absorbers at the rear. The motor of the electric scooter is placed below the battery pack and it is likely to power the rear wheel via a conventional belt-driven mechanism. Suzuki might also share cycle parts with its other petrol-powered scooters like Access 125 to keep the cost in check.
Talking about the launch timeline, the upcoming Suzuki Electric Scooter is expected to launch in India by mid-next year. However, considering the impact of COVID-19, the launch might further get delayed. It will be Suzuki's first electric scooter in India and will feature good looks, decent performance, and low-riding range. Upon launch, it will rival the mainstream players like TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak and we expect it to undercut the pricing of all its rivals with a sticker price of under Rs. 1 lakh.
