Delhi government extends the validity of Learner's and Heavy Commercial (Transport) Vehicle Driving licenses up to March 31, 2022 till further notice.
With a surge in COVID cases in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, RTOs all over Delhi suspended all forms of physical training as per the guidelines issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on January 6, 2022. An order stating an additional two months extension of validity for learner's and heavy commercial (transport) vehicle driving licenses expiring between 01-02-2020 to 31-01-2022 has been issued by the Delhi Government.

Even though the faceless services by Delhi RTOs continue to function, the Delhi Government received multiple requests stating several individuals unable to obtain an online appointment for the driving skill tests to get a permanent driving license.

The authorities observed a similar situation in the suspension of refresher training courses requiring the physical presence of candidates applying for a renewal of a Heavy Commercial Vehicle Driving License. The extension has been provided only to the Transport category of Heavy Commercial Vehicle licenses to prevent the public transport infrastructure from being affected.
This continues to be a sore for some as we are yet to hear on the extension of validity for existing Passenger Vehicle license holders and Non-transport type Commercial Vehicles. A considerably high number of applicants await the renewal of their expired driving licenses, including daily commuters, cab drivers and goods transporters in the city, thus adding up to the public's distress during this pandemic.
