Vehicle Fitness Certificate Sticker Mandatory On Windshield!

Vehicle fitness is a major concern for the commuters on road. With the evolution in science and technology, vehicles feature an on-board diagnostic system that allows the vehicle owners to know about any faults in their vehicle. The sole purpose of these comprehensive systems is to maintain the vehicle heath. However, vehicle owners tend to ignore these parameters due to negligence and lack of knowledge. So, the government has drafted rules to display the vehicle fitness certificate while on road.

An unfit vehicle can pose a threat to both the occupants as well as the commuters on road. One of the parameters to judge the fitness of a vehicle is by measuring the emissions. Pollution is one of the most significant environmental hazards which is currently being dealt with by our country being on the verge of critical air quality. The largest chunk of air pollution is done by vehicles run using internal combustion engines. To regulate emissions from time to time, the government has drafted and implemented several emission norms. For this purpose, every vehicle running on an internal combustion engine is mandated to get the vehicle tested from a pollution centre and carry the pollution certificate along with other documents of the vehicle.

Similarly, the government has decided to set up a test centre to check for the overall fitness of a vehicle. A sticker, in a prescribed manner, displaying the fitness certificate and registration status of a vehicle has been mandated to be stuck on the windshield. This would be applicable to all Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), Medium sized Goods and passenger carriers, Heavy Goods and passenger carriers. The sticker would be stuck on the upper edge of the left side of the front windshield. The sticker can be stuck on a conspicuous part of the vehicle only in the case of a two wheeler like scooters or bikes. In the case of auto rickshaws, electric rickshaws, electric carts and quadricycles, the sticker would be the same as that of a four wheeler and would be stuck on the windshield itself.

As per the notification released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the desired information will be displayed in yellow colour on blue background in Arial bold font to make it readable from a distance. This fitness sticker is similar to a number plate and will exhibit the expiry date of the fitness of a vehicle in DD - MM - YY format. This decision will help the traffic police to spot vehicles running illegally on the road without a fitness test.
