Volkswagen has revealed its concept Volkswagen ID.2all electric car that is slated to go on sale in 2025. This follows the new futuristic design language inspired by the icons like the VW Beetle, VW Polo, and VW Golf. This will be launched first in the European market in 2025, and then maybe Indian roads might be next. The electric plan of manufacturers is now on booster mode already.
Let's look at the interesting reveal from the German Cargiant.
Volkswagen ID.2all Design
The ID.2all concept previews the carmakers new design language, based on three pillars, namely stability, likeability, and enthusiasm. While positioned as its entry-level EV offering, the concept has a premium design statement inspired by the iconic big shots.
At the front, the looks appear minimalistic, yet a charmer. It sports a LED headlamp setup with an LED strip running across the bonnet housing the iconic 'VW' badging. The bumper contains neatly integrated air intakes and provides a signature styling to the concept.
The rear carry forwards the design statement forward. It sports LED tail lights, which are again joined by a red LED strip that crowns the 'VW' badging for the rear, just above the ID.2all branding. Moving a little lower, the bumper is a beefier take on the stance, providing it with a sporty differentiating element.
In terms of dimensions, the ID.2all measures as follows compared to the globally available sixth-gen Polo, Volkswagens popular compact hatchback:
Dimensions | ID.2all | Polo | Difference |
Length | 4,050mm | 4,074mm | -24mm |
Width | 1,812 mm | 1,751mm (excluding ORVMs) | +61mm |
Height | 1,530mm | 1,451mm | +79mm |
Wheelbase | 2,600mm | 2,552mm | +48mm |

Interiors: A Glimpse Of The Future
A car being crafted for launch in 2023 is bound to be high on tech. This is exactly the case with the ID.2all. It gets a cocooned cockpit-styled driver's space. The instrument cluster is a sleek screen with a chunky big screen for infotainment purposes. The steering wheel is a flat-bottomed, 3-spoke leather-wrapped, mounted controls unit. It carries its minimalistic premium approach to the inside as well. The ambient lighting strips flush well with the creasing of the dashboard and the door lines.
Added to the accelerator and brake pedals are the play and pause signs respectively, for the quirky little elements. The ID.2all will have a storage capacity ranging from 490-1,330 liters.
Volkswagen ID.2all: Powertrain And Platform
The new ID.2all is based on the fresh Global Modular Electric Drive Platform. It will be the first MEB-based electric hatch to be a front-wheel driven.
The 226PS electric motor can do a 0-100kmph just shy of seven seconds and a top speed of 160kmph. The ID.2all concepts battery pack capacity isn't known as of now. But, it will have an estimated WLTP range of up to 450km. The battery pack can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes. This is an impressive figure to have.
Pricing And Timeline
Volkswagen plans to launch 10 electric cars by the year 2026. The Volkswagen ID.2all will be one of the offerings. The price will remain under 25,000 Euros( Rs. 22 lakhs INR), as of now, which is an ambitious plan to execute in 2025. Volkswagen is also developing an even smaller, more affordable electric car which will be priced at less than 20,000 euros (equivalent to Rs 17.5 lakh). It will face tough competition from native companies in this price bracket.
VERDICT- With this launch in 2025, Volkswagen will place itself in a very interesting spot. The industry will be electric-centric with a lot of options to choose from. Pricing is something that plays a pivotal role in success. It is tough to launch the vehicle in India if it's not a localized production. Failing to do so, the price could be placed north of Rs. 30 lakh mark. What do you think about this new concept? What changes do you expect in the launch-ready model?
