Volkswagen T-Roc R India Launch Under consideration! How Different Is It From The T-Roc?

Volkswagen and Skoda, both the brands have tried a lot of experiments in the past with the automotive enthusiasts of India, Volkswagen is some of the brands which also actively indulge in motorsports in India. We have seen a lot of performance-oriented cars from both the brands and in fresh news, Skoda's latest Octavia VRS, despite carrying a price of 36 lakhs ex-showroom, has been sold out in India. Volkswagen is also considering the sportier version of the T-Roc for the Indian market, globally it is called T-Roc R.

Volkswagen launched the T-Roc in India at Rs 19.99 lakhs and it is being sold via the CBU route. We were also hearing that looking at the response from the market, Volkswagen may consider assembling the T-Roc SUV in India rather importing as a CBU which attracts more tax and customs duties. Volkswagen is now considering the T-Roc R for the Indian market and it may be called as T-Roc GT. According to Volkswagen, Indians are more familiar with the GT moniker as it has been here for a long time now.

Globally, the Volkswagen T-Roc R is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine which churns out 300 PS at 5000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 2000-5200 rpm. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG and it puts the power to all the 4 wheels via 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. The T-Roc R does 0-100 in a whopping 4.9 seconds which is really good for a mid-size SUV. We have also seen the same engine in the recently launched Tiguan Allspace and upcoming Skoda Kodiaq petrol but it has been detuned to 187 hp for both these cars.

We can't reckon the exact power figures now but if the T-Roc GT comes via the CBU route, it can be the exact spec with 300 PS and it can cost an upward of Rs 30 lakhs ex-showroom. If Volkswagen assembles the car in India, it is possible that we see the detuned engine plonked inside the T-Roc GT. Nothing is official yet but Volkswagen is working behind the curtains under its 'SUVW' program which highly focuses on SUVs. In terms of equipment, it will be on par with the normal T-Roc. The normal T-Roc comes with a 1.5-litre TSI engine which churns out 150 hp!
