The Swedish Automaker, Volvo, recently announced the expansion of its research and development operations in India. India has become the largest international development site for the brand outside its homeland and has decided to lay the foundation for the 'Vehicle TechLab' for research and development operations of Volvo group in India. The brand had launched CampX - Global Innovation Arena earlier, in July 2021 which was Volvo's first site outside Sweden.
The Volvo group aspires to achieve a net-zero value chain greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) by 2040, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 40% from its vehicles by 2030, and has targeted a minimum 50% sale of electric trucks by the end of this decade.

The brand would focus on developing and adopting emerging technologies in the Indian passenger car and commercial vehicle portfolio. These new technologies would be brought in with new business models, across automation, electromobility and connected vehicle technology which would play a crucial role in the transformation journey of Volvo Group.
With an increased demand for a connectivity framework in India, the brand has decided to increase its focus on the research and development operations in product and project responsibility with improvement in product knowledge and prototype validation capability. The Vehicle TechLab with its enhanced capabilities can house entire truck, chassis and aggregates. Volvo trucks currently has sixteen thousand engineers and this employment would rise over the years. The research facility would have added up facilities like vehicle garages, electrical and electronics lab, AR/VR lab and many other breathtaking technological facilities. Additionally, the equipment is capable of testing, innovating, validating and experimenting with their work on driving simulators, test benches, 3D scanners and many other tools and systems. This Volvo expansion would reduce development times, improve problem-solving times and offer innovative solutions.
