The Swedish carmaker is considering the XC40 Recharge for the Indian market. Volvo XC40 Recharge is an all-electric incarnation of the regular XC40. It is powered by two electric motors and offers a claimed range of 400 km. India launch of the Volvo XC40 Recharge is slated for next year, after the launch of third-gen S60 sedan.
Volvo recently launched the BS6 XC40 petrol and axed the diesel AWD variants. The petrol-only XC40 is soon to get an all-electric version which was unveiled last year globally. The Volvo XC40 Recharge gets power from two electric motors mounted on each axle, the total power output is 408hp and 660 Nm of torque. Thanks to the all-electric all-wheel-drive, XC40 Recharge can do 0-100 in just 4.9 seconds whereas the top whack is limited to 180 km/h. Not only the Recharge, but all the cars from Volvo comes with a limited 180 km/h top speed.
Powering the XC40 Recharge is a floor-mounted 78kWh battery pack which channels power to both the electric motors. If you have access to a 150kW DC fast charger, the battery can be juiced up to 80% in just minutes. The WLTP-certified claimed range of the XC40 Recharge is 400 km. The charging port of the XC40 Recharge is placed at the location of the fuel filling port.

The looks of the Volvo XC40 are not largely different over the conventional XC40. The front gets a faux grille which is flat and the bumpers are also very plain. The clamshell bonnet gives it a mature stance and the alloy wheels also sport similar design. The rear design of the Recharge is identical to the regular XC40 but doesn't have any exhaust ports. The D-pillar gets "Recharge" badging which in a normal car, says R-design.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge is also the first Volvo to come with a new touchscreen system with Android support. The layout is still vertical and the dashboard design is also similar to the XC40. As the motors are placed under the body, the bonnet of the XC40 Recharge has storage space for a couple of small bags and the boot is spacious too. The India launch of the Volvo XC40 Recharge is slated for next year and it will be launched after the new S60. Volvo is aiming at new-age buyers and it will provide versatility to the brand in the Indian market.
