- Honda drops the 'G' tag
- Activa moniker to continue
- How are the next generations going to be named?
When we say scooter, only one name automatically strikes us. The synonymous name for scooters in India, the Honda Activa is now tweaked. Honda has decided to modify the naming of its flagship product in India. Generating the largest volume of sales for the company, in 2023, it sold over 21 lakh units, most of them in India alone.
But no, the 'Activa' naming is not being dropped, it is the 6G tag that receives the axe. But it is still the same scooter that you loved. Apart from the renaming, everything else remains untouched.
Why This Change
While Honda has not given any reason for dropping the 'G' tag, it can still be attributed to the generation. This all started back in 2015 with the Activa 3G ( also our internet, back in those days) which indicated its generation at that time. Going forward, the generation moved only 2 steps ahead, so the naming was not suiting well. This could have been most likely the reason for this axing.
What About The Future Honda Activa
The next Activa's will be simply just Activa. No 7G or 8G. It would be accompanied by the manufacturing year as MY2023 Honda Activa. The more powerful variant is called the Honda Activa 125. Another variant called the H-Smart continues with its current naming as it never had the G factor.
Engine
Honda Activa 6G comes with a 109.51 cc engine generating a power of 7.84 PS and a torque of 8.90 Nm. The mileage as on paper is 50 kmpl. This is the standard variant. Since this is the standard variant, it gets less power than the 125 cc unit. Activa 125, on the other hand, comes with a single cylinder, 123.97 cc, 4 Stroke & BS-VI Engine producing produce 10.3 Nm torque and 8.29 PS power.
VERDICT- Since the G suffix is now gone, the Activa 6G will be called just Activa. The future Activa will also be doing away with these tags. But the Activa name will continue.
