The two-wheeler electric segment is one of the fastest-growing segments in India as well as globally. With several players in this segment, big giants have like Yamaha two-wheelers have also started to join the EV league. Adding to this, Yamaha electric scooter E01, NEO has been debuted globally.
Yamaha has taken their time for R&D and has come up with these two models for the electric two-wheeler segment. These electric scooters will cater to the global markets at first and shall make way to the domestic Indian market later some time.
Yamaha E01
Based on the E01 platform this electric scooter can be considered equivalent to a 125cc segment petrol scooter. Yamaha E01 will cater to the buyers who need a powerful EV for daily city commutes and can do a decent driving range on a single charge.
Yamaha showcased the E01 platform at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show and now the production-ready electric scooter has made its debut. Design-wise the E01 features a subtle sharp design that looks futuristic as well as properly resembles the design language of the Yamaha. While there are no specification details, the E01 will feature an 11kW battery (15 hp). There has been no word about the driving range but it is expected to do around 70 km on a full charge.

The E01 will also feature different driving modes as such the Eco, Normal, and Power modes. These modes will enable the rider to use the power according to the changing road conditions and requirements. Japanese media has already got the chance to drive development units and according to them, it is a very capable scooter. Yamaha will commence the first batch delivery to the fleet owners in Europe thus giving a clear idea of how well the scooter can perform and how reliable it will be in the long run.
Yamaha NEO
This electric scooter is based on the E02 platform which was also showcased at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The Yamaha NEO will be a nimble and small electric scooter with very limited capabilities.
It is anticipated to be equivalent to the 50cc petrol scooters and shall be strictly designed by keeping in mind the younger audience. Yamaha already sells the NEO brand in India with a petrol engine and the new electric scooter shall divulge the ICE into an EV.
No specifications have been revealed but it seems the NEO will be cost-efficient and shall be launched along with the big E01 scooter.
Yamaha Electric Scooters Launch
Both the E01 and NEO will soon go into the production phase. With the commencement of production, these electric scooters will be launched in European and Japanese markets first. This launch is expected by the end of this year. For the Indian market, Yamaha might hold the launch for this year and shall bring both of these scooters by the next year-half.
