What Is TVS iGO Assist?

tvs iGO Assist

The TVS iGO Assist is basically a micro-hybrid system for two-wheelers. It consists of an integrated starter generator, the battery, and a controller. Together, this system enables three different things. The first is silent start, and that's possible due to the usage of the same generator that charges the battery, thus eliminating the need for a conventional starter motor with the noise of grinding gears.

The second thing is that the ISG motor assists in the automatic start/stop functionality. When the two-wheeler is idling for a certain number of seconds, it turns the engine off, and also automatically turns it on when the rider engages the brake and the accelerator.

Lastly, this system gives the two-wheeler a slight 'boost'. The controller is activated when the rider wrings the throttle harder, giving the engine extra torque. In the case of the Raider iGO, the 125cc engine produces 11.75Nm of torque with iGO Assist, which is 0.5Nm more than the regular Raider. Similarly, in the Jupiter's case, the torque goes up from 9.2Nm to to 9.8Nm.

What are the benefits of TVS iGO?

The iGO Assist helps the rider with faster overtakes, or simply when he/she needs a bit more performance from their two-wheeler. However, the difference is so subtle that it will often go unnoticed. TVS also claims that this system aids in more fuel efficiency. While the start-stop system is known to work in traffic fairly well, the higher fuel efficiency claim is something we are keen to check out for ourselves.

Verdict

The differences provided by TVS iGO Assist are so subtle that one will often not notice them on a daily basis. However, added torque when you need it, and enhanced fuel efficiency never really hurts, does it?
