The Mahindra XUV700 has been one of the most popular SUVs to launch this year, and it reflects in its monthly volume that outsells its competitors
Mahindras new XUV700 has been an excellent example of doing things outrageously right. It starts with an ex-showroom price (Delhi) of Rs. 12.49 lakh with the base MX, with plenty of bells and whistles on board to get you comfortably from point A to point B. So, as an overall package, the entire XUV700 line-up has been so enticing that when Mahindra opened its bookings, it saw a record booking of 75,000 units in just 52 minutes.
However, Mahindra quickly followed it by officially ending the production of the last generation XUV500. The five-seater SUV nicknamed the Cheetah has been a popular premium offering from Mahindra, but of late its sales had slowly started to drop. It was at this juncture, that Mahindra revived their line-up with the launching of the new Mahindra Thar, followed by the Neo Bolero based on the TUV 300 (now discontinued). And now with the global shortage chip beginning to settle down, manufacturers can get their production up to speed.
Ever since its launch, the XUV700 has spearheaded Mahindras sales chart. For October 2021, the Mahindra XUV700 recorded monthly volume sales of 3,407 units, compared to just the 1,370 units the month before. This puts the XUV700 on top of the list, which is followed by the Harrier with sales volumes at 3,097 units in October 2021, from 2,821 units in September. Another SUV from Tata, the Safari recorded an increase to 1,735 units, which is an increase of 235 units from last September 2021.

Which was a drop of 1,147 units from last month September 2021 sales of 3,625 units. Another newly launched SUV that witnessed similar MoM declines was the Hyundai Alcazar. Only 1,392 units of the Alcazar was sold in October 2021, compared to just 1,929 units that were sold last month.

The SUV segment as a whole has witnessed a total MoM growth of 13.71% this October 2021. Especially the compact and sub-compact SUV segment. This shows the popularity and demand of a segment, and the Mahindra XUV700 outshone many of its competitors. Some of the crucial standout features and pointers that make the XUV700 standout are stated below:
Engine
Both the 2.0-litre mHawk petrol engine and 2.2-litre mStallion diesel engine are capable of tremendous potential. The former produces 200 Ps and 380 Nm, whereas the diesel engine puts out 155 Ps/185 Ps and a wide range of torque from 360 Nm to 450 Nm, all peaking as early as 2800 rpm. Both engines come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic transmission.
Acceleration
Mahindra claims that the XUV700 can do 0-60 kmph in under 5 seconds. However, the weight of the XUV700 exceeds 1,960 kg to 2,040 kg. Keeping this number in mind, Mahindra has equipped the XUV700 with quite the list of safety features.
Safety Features
Mahindras last safest SUV was the XUV300. It scored a solid 5-star rating in the Global NCP crash test in Africa. The same Indian-made version is sold over there. So, the XUV700 has a lineage of good safety ratings. Mahindra has equipped the XUV700 with ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance System) that includes passive safety features like Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Driver Fatigue Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, 7 Airbags, ABS with EBD. Theres also a Blind Spot Monitor and 360 degrees Camera, knee airbags, Smart Clean Zone, Digital Video Recording, Follow Me Home Headlamps that further make the Mahindra XUV700 safer.
The Mahindra XUV700s comfort features are surely luxurious and indulging. It manages to offer something that is missed out on the likes of the Tata Harrier, MG Hector and Hyundai Alcazar. Just like its predecessor, the XUV700 manages to make a premium statement in a typical Mahindra style.
