PROS
1. Only Sedan In Segment With 4-Star GNCAP Rating
The Tata Tigor stands out as one of the safest compact sedans in its segment, earning a 4-star rating from GNCAP. Notably, it achieves this high safety score with only a dual airbags configuration across all variants, highlighting the strength of its body shell. Additional safety features include ABS with EBD, corner stability control, and rear parking assist, among others. Interstingly, the Maruti Dzire is yet to get any ratings whereas the Honda Amaze scored just 2 stars in the GNCAP tests under new protocols.
2. Decent Features List
The Tigor boasts a notable array of features for its segment. It includes projector automatic headlamps, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, steering-mounted controls, and a reverse parking camera. Additionally, it comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto-folding ORVMs, LED daytime running lights, and keyless entry with push-button start/stop.
3. All Powertrain Options: ICE, EV, And CNG
If youre considering the Tata Tigor, you have a variety of choices to suit your needs. You can select from a petrol engine or a petrol+CNG dual-fuel option. Additionally, the Tiago is offered in an electric variant, making it a practical choice for city driving. Interstingly, the Tigor CNG comes with twin-cylinder tech that adds a significant practicality to its boot space, a once dreaded con of the greener alternative.
4. Decent Engine Performance With A Good Mileage
The 1.2L petrol engine on the Tigor delivers a lively and decent performance, providing a responsive and engaging driving experience. With 86bhp, it offers ample power to propel the car, and the 113Nm of torque is accessible from a low 3300 rpm, making the Tigor enjoyable and easy to handle. This combination ensures that the Tiago is a pleasure to drive and maneuver.

CONS
1. 3-Cylinder Engine Isn't The Most Refined
The Tata Tigor, equipped with a 3-cylinder petrol engine, does not excel in refinement. The engine tends to be somewhat noisy, and vibrations can be felt in the gearbox and steering wheel. While these issues are not overly disruptive and one can adapt to them over time, some drivers might find the experience less than ideal than what they've expected from their daily ride.
2. Poorly Equipped Base Variants
Just like the case with Tata Tiago, the Tigor also misses big time features with its base variant. The XE variant of the Tigor lacks several key features that are increasingly common in modern vehicles. Notably, it does not include a day/night inside rear-view mirror, remote central locking, or wheel covers. While there should not be much expectation from the entry-level trims, but in 2024, these could have been offered while keeping the evolving trends in perspective.
3. Cabin Quality
While the Tigor offers many strengths, the interior quality and finish leave something to be desired. The extensive use of hard plastics and limited soft-touch materials detract from the overall feel of the cabin. Additionally, some areas of the fit and finish seem not to meet our expectations and could have benefited from better attention to detail.
4. Missing Features At The Top
The Tata Tigor offers a solid array of features, including automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and keyless entry with push-button start/stop. However, it would be an even more attractive package if it included additional features such as cruise control, LED headlights, and a front armrest. Well, you might say that the cruise control is present, but you only get that with the top-spec XZ+ variant, and that too with just the manual gearbox. If you want the AMT transmission, be prepared to keep your foot on the pedal for the length of your highway drives.
Verdict
The Tata Tigor, where it scores, has to be its solid build quality and its engine performace and mileage figures. Even though it adds some nifty touches in its features list, it definetely needs work inside the cabin to stand up a little more firmly against its rivals.
