2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Pulls Off 5-Star In Euro NCAP Crash Test
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee launched in India in November 2022
  • Comes in a single loaded variant at Rs 77.50 lakh (ex-showroom)
  • The SUV has scored 5 star rating in Euro NCAP crash test

In India, Jeep released its flagship Grand Cherokee SUV in November for a price of Rs 77.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is packed with security and comfort features. Now that the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has undergone crash testing by the Euro NCAP agency, the SUV has achieved a 5-star safety rating. In Europe, the ratings from the Euro NCAP testing serve as a standard for crash safety, and the level of protection is continually increasing. With the updated crash test results, we may anticipate that the Made in India Grand Cherokee will receive the same crash test rating.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Crash Test

In the Euro NCAP crash test the SUV has scored 84% for adult occupants, 89% for child occupant protection, 81% for vulnerable road users, and 81% for safety assistance. The test vehicle has front, knee, and curtain airbags as well as a belt pre-tensioner with a load limiter, a seat belt reminder, and ISOFIX.

During the frontal offset test, the Jeep Grand Cherokee's passenger compartment remained steady. Both the driver and the passenger's important body parts were well protected. Jeep showed that enough protection would also be given to the knees and femurs of passengers of various sizes and sitting postures. The impact trolley's deceleration throughout the test and the deformable barrier's interpretation of the results showed that the car would be an aggressive partner in a frontal accident.

All important body areas were fully protected throughout the side barrier and side pole tests, and the Grand Cherokee received the highest rating possible. Excursion control, which refers to how far a body is thrown to the opposite side of a vehicle when it is struck from the opposite side, was subpar. The Grand Cherokee lacks a countermeasure to lessen injuries from occupant to occupant in such accidents. In the case of a rear-end collision, tests on the front seats and head restraints showed only fair protection against whiplash injuries.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

In India, Jeep has only offered the Grand Cherokee with one engine choice. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter petrol turbo engine. This engine has a tremendous 400 Nm of peak torque and a peak power output of 270 bhp. All four wheels receive this power from an automated torque converter transmission with eight speeds. It receives the Quadratrack 4X4 system in classic Jeep fashion. The four terrain settings for this system are Auto, Sport, Sand/Mud, and Snow. The mode selector buttons on the centre console allow you to quickly switch between these modes.

Verdict: The Grand Cherokee's LHD and RHD versions are both compatible with the findings of the crash tests. Given that both models have identical features, it is anticipated that the Indian variant will receive comparable ratings to the Euro standard variant.
