2022 Grand Cherokee Design & Features
The design of the new Cherokee is similar to the international model. The butch looks of the SUV are complemented by the wide front grille. The headlights, however, do resemble the smaller siblings like the Meridian SUV. The side profile gets bold shoulder lines and big 5-spoke alloy wheels. Additionally, the rear end also gets sleek LED taillights and a large windshield design. The Indian-spec Cherokee will only be sold with a 5-seat layout.
The interiors of the Cherokee are also a bit similar to the Meridian SUV or one can say vice-versa. A big panoramic sunroof welcomes you inside the leather-wrapped cabin. The three-spoke steering wheel is well accompanied by a digital instrument panel. Additionally, it gets a big touchscreen infotainment panel as well. Meanwhile, Jeep has claimed that it will be the first RHD Grand Cherokee to be sold anywhere. It will be sold as a CKD unit as its assembly will take place in Maharashtra itself. Additionally, it gets 100 plus passive safety features like the ADAS Level 2, Blind Sport Assist, & Adaptive Cruise Control as well.
Engine & Specifications
Jeep has launched the Grand Cherokee with only one engine option in India. It gets a 2.0-lt turbocharged petrol engine. This engine makes a peak power of 270 bhp & a massive 400 Nm of peak torque. An 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox delivers this power to all four wheels. In the true Jeep manner, it gets the Quadratrack 4X4 system. This system gets 4 different terrain modes - Auto, Sport, Sand/Mud, & Snow. These modes can be shifted on the fly by the mode selector buttons on the center console.
Verdict
The Rs 77.50 lakh price tag is only an introductory price. However, a CKD unit means that the Grand Cherokee will remain smartly priced. Its main rivals in India are the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, & BMW X5. Deliveries of the Grand Cherokee will begin by the end of November.
