2022 Tata Tiago CNG Achieved 37.57 km/kg Mileage On Highway - Video

We recently did a highway mileage run of the recently launched 2022 Tata Tiago CNG where we drove the hatchback for 300+ km on the Yamuna Expressway. This fuel economy run was done with two people on board and some luggage kept on the rear seat.

Our aim was to drive the Tata Tiago iCNG on the CNG mode only till it runs out of it completely and gets switched to petrol automatically. We started our run from Noida where we first topped the cylinder with CNG and reset the trip meter's A and B to zero. From there on, we continued our journey towards the Yamuna Expressway.

Sharing the power figures first then Tiago iCNG offers 72 bhp on tap with a peak torque of 95 Nm. The ARAI certified mileage sticks at 26.49 km/kg. We kept our speeds between 70 to 80 kmph first and later on switched to 75 kmph to 80 kmph for the whole run.

Since our run was on CNG mode then the average fuel economy was not displayed on the odometer. It is only displayed if the car is run on petrol mode. This run was done on non AC mode due to the winter season in the North and it was mostly drizzling along the way.

The first bar of CNG dropped right after crossing the Mathura toll that is completing 117 of the journey. The second bar dropped at 160 km when we took a small water break and stretched our legs on the highway. After covering another 10 km, we parked the car to fill our belly and gave the Tiago iCNG some rest.

Shortly after our food break and 175 km into the journey, the third bar dropped and with only a total of two bars to go, we were sceptical if the Tiago iCNG will give us more than 250 km in one tank or not. We kept the speed limit between 75 kmph to 80 kmph.

The fourth bar dropped at the 240 km mark and with only one bar of CNG remaining, we were sure that it'll last for at least 60 km. To our surprise, the fifth bar started blinking at 277 km and a warning sign of refuel CNG popped on the odometer. Still, there was some gas left in the tank and it lasted for another 24.2 km before the car switched to the petrol mode automatically. The CNG in the cylinder lasted for a good 301.2 km of our joruney.

Another interesting bit I liked about the Tiago iCNG was how it smoothly transitioned from CNG to petrol mode. Since we covered 301.2 km entirely on CNG mode, it was time to head to the CNG pump to refill the cylinder again. The total gas that was filled was 8.07 kg. Now, if we have to calculate then we divide the total number of km by the total CNG filled. We achieved an astonishing mileage of 37.57 km/kg. This figure is achieved on the highway in the non AC mode with two people on board and some luggage.
