2023 Honda WRV-V Details
In terms of design, the new WR-V is one step ahead of its predecessor. Whereas the current-gen WR-V gets a low-slung hatchback-inspired outlook; the new model looks more sporty. Additionally, the stance of the car has been enhanced by raised roof lines and body lines. The overall design now makes it look more SUV than the previous car. Meanwhile, the shared design cues like the front grille with wide chrome stripe, etc. are visible too. However, the front headlights resemble the bigger SUVs like the new CR-V from Honda. The headlights get an LED treatment with LED DRLs as well. The 17-inch multi-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels look sporty and go well with the contrast.
At the rear end, Honda has used a design inspired by bigger SUVs like the CR-V. However, the proportions are small but the car looks butch from the rear end as well. The curved-out boot lid and tilted rear windshield are well supported by the rood-mounted spoiler and the raised bumper. Hence, the rugged and SUV-ish appeal has increased on it. Additionally, the split LED taillights look mature and decent on the new car.
Inside the cabin is now all new. The dashboard, steering wheel, & overall design layout resembles the Honda Amaze somewhat. However, there are noticeable differences from other sibling cars. The overall theme is black and it gets leather seats as well. Additionally, the WR-V is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, rear camera, etc. It also gets steering-mounted audio and cruise control buttons. The speedometer looks similar to the Honda City 5th Gen in India.
Engine & Specifications
The international model is only offered with the reliable 1.5-lt naturally aspirated petrol motor. It is the same engine as seen on the current-gen City sedan. This motor makes a peak power of 119 bhp & 145 Nm of peak torque. However, only a CVT gearbox is offered on the Asian models. In India, we suspect that Honda will keep offering the new WR-V with the current powertrain options. But, as the NGT rules are getting stricter, the possibility of axing out the diesel engine is high in the future.
Meanwhile, the most interesting thing about the new car is the Honda Sensing equipment. The Honda Sensing refers to the mix of safety tech. These include ADAS, lane-keep-assist function, collision mitigation system, & even adaptive cruise control. However, the Indian spec might not get all of these altogether due to less strict safety norms.
Verdict
The debut of a new WR-V means that Honda is serious about the C-SUV and mid-size SUV segment. Meanwhile, India is the hub of SUVs; the domestic launch of the new WR-V seems imminent. Upon its launch in India, it will rival the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, & Tata Nexon. We suspect that the new WR-V can make its Indian debut by the upcoming Indian Auto Expo 2023.
