Speed 400 - Details
As Triumph has decided, both models have been named differently. The first one is a more road-centric bike. It is called Speed 400 and it beholds the looks of a proper roadster bike. Additionally, the overall design of both models is more or less the same. However, to distinguish both, there are minute design element differences. The Speed 400, for example, gets 17-inch alloy wheels, bar-end mirrors, an aluminium-finished single exhaust can, and a single seat.
Both models are powered by an all-new 398cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This engine generates a peak power of 39.5 bhp & 37.5 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The features include a semi-digital instrument cluster, USD front forks, LED lights, & adjustable monoshock at the rear. It also gets a 300mm front disc brake and a 230mm rear disc brake with a dual-channel ABS. The Speed 400 is available in three colours: Carnival Red, Caspian Blue and Phantom Black.
Scrambler 400X - Details
The second, and more rugged, variant is the Scrambler 400X. It is based on the same chassis and design as the Speed 400. However, it is meant for rough rides and trail explorations. Hence, there are crucial changes to it. For example, it gets a raised handlebar, a bigger 19-inch front alloy wheel, block-pattern tyres, dual-can exhaust, split seats, off-road footpegs, side scuff plates, knuckle guards, & a headlight guard.
Apart from these, the Scrambler gets a bigger 320mm front disc brake than the Speed 400. Also, the Scrambler is 9 kg heavier than the Speed 400. Its weight of it is 179 kg whereas the Speed 400 is only 170 kg. Engine and other specifications including the rest of the hardware like suspension; are the same on both of the bikes. Also, both models get a C-type charging port for phones as standard. The Scrambler 400X is available in three colours: Khaki Green, Carinval Red and Phantom Black.
Verdict
Bajaj && Triumph is going to launch both of these models on 5 July in India. We suspect that both of these models will be priced upwards of Rs 2.75 lakh. Additionally, the main rivals of these will include KTM 390 Duke, BMW G 310 R, & Yezdi Scrambler.
