BharatBenz Bus Fleet Gets 'BSafe'; COVID-19 Prevention Features

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has introduced features called 'BSafe' in their BharatBenz Bus Fleet in response to the safety concerns of the public who cannot avoid travel at times of COVID-19 pandemic.

As the world revolves around the sun, newer battles for the survival of the fittest emerges out of the blue. The COVID-19 pandemic is one such brutal battle that was not meant for acquiring power but instead was a cry for mercy. As of today, people are on the verge of losing hope, however, there are heroes to keep our journey of life safe from the pandemic. It is none other than the Industries that once worked for capital and investments.

It did not take much time for the heroes to wear their capes of honour and empathy to help people. The commercial vehicle industry is one such sector that showed a heroic presence that soon realized the importance of humanity. Without any delay, the vehicle companies soon converted their manufacturing units to produce medical equipment and components that were in shortage. This move has saved precious time and energy in the fight against the pandemic.

There are numerous stories of industries that came forward to help fight against the pandemic, which combined, could result in the creation of a history book that would require many years to complete. But at the same time, it would not be right to leave these stories unheard. Hence, we have decided to share the story of a CV company that has solved the problem of commuting at times like these.

This is the story of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) that has introduced features called 'BSafe' in their BharatBenz Bus Fleet in response to the safety concerns of the public who cannot avoid travel at times of COVID-19 pandemic.

What is 'BSafe'?

BSafe in BharatBenz Bus

BSafe is an initiative to reduce surface contact by people in the BharatBenz bus fleet while travelling. This is achieved with the help of unique features equipped in the bus like a pneumatic door system and hands-free sanitiser. The bus is equipped with a hands-free temperature sensor. It also gets a trash can that is foot operated. This would facilitate the safer disposal of used masks and other items.

What are the other BSafe-features?

DICV stated that if in case a passenger boarding the bus has a temperature over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the driver gets an immediate alert and a buzzer will be activated. In addition to this, the passage to enter the bus has disinfectant mats to clean viruses of the shoes while the passengers aboard.

The BSafe BharatBenz Bus has two seat cover options to choose from: one is an infection proof cover that retains its ant-virus and anti-bacterial properties up to 20 washes. The other is a disposable cover for each passenger which after each use will be removed and disposed of.

The BSafe BharatBenz Bus comes with an air circulation system and A UV filter to keep the environment inside the bus clean of bad airborne viruses. There is a UV lamp that DICV says has the ability to kill up to 99.6% of airborne viruses. The two systems are preventive systems if in case the viruses enter the bus even after the initial precautionary measures are taken.

In addition to all this, the safety of the driver is equally important as passengers, hence, a glass partition has been made between the driver's cabin and the passenger area inside the bus. The driver also gets a COVID safety kit that includes N95 masks, Hand-sanitizers, disinfectant sprays, anti-bacterial wipes to keep the cabin safe and clean from viruses.

What was the intent behind the BSafe BharatBenz Bus Fleet?

This is where the small story begins; Karl Alexander Seidel, the CEO and Head of Daimler Bus India, and his team were curious and keen to create something helpful to the public. It is a known fact to them that many families and front line workers depend on public buses to commute to work or to meet their families residing in the neighbouring cities. However, public transports sadly lacked the facility to keep passengers safe from the virus attack.

Since virus transmission has been a major concern, the transport authorities have temporarily halted the services. This meant that families and front line workers faced the difficult challenge of reaching their destination. Hence to address the people's issues towards public transport and to offer reassuring safety features, Passenger buses have been equipped with the BSafe features by DICV.

This is just the story of one innovative industry out of many working towards providing the public with solutions to the problems created by the pandemic crisis.
