EKA - NuPort Robotics has shaken hands for a new joint venture. This new partnership will work on developing new e-buses with the autonomous driving assist.
The Pune-based EV manufacturer EKA has stepped into a joint venture with a Canadian company called the NuPort Robotics. The newly formed joint venture called the EKA - NuPort Robotics JV will embark on the journey of developing India's first e-buses with Level 2 autonomous driving feature.
After introducing its first-ever product called the EKA E9 bus; the company is now ready to expand its portfolio via the development of safer tech. According to this new joint venture, both the companies will rigorously test around 5,000 buses equipped with ADAS or autonomous driving assist function. This will be a level 2 ADAS tech that NuPort has been providing globally to the commercial fleet operators and manufacturers.
The introduction of ADAS-equipped e-buses in India will be a remarkable step in the commercial industry. This will not only ensure the safety of the roads but will considerably decrease the increasing emission levels. NuPort announced its entry into the Indian market the previous month. The first project for them is to utilize the investment of Rs 150 crores for developing these ADAS fitted e-buses.
According to NuPort Robotics, more than 50 percent of accidents can be reduced via the use of autonomous driving technology. This technology will not only ensure the safety of passengers but will also increase the operational efficiency of the transport itself. NuPort Robotics also claims that the Level 2 autonomous technology is being specifically developed by keeping in mind the Indian driving conditions. The new tech will inculcate the use of dynamic parameters of the Indian roads and traffic conditions. This shall help in precising the ADAS feature for the new e-buses.
