Electric Mobility is undoubtedly taking up in a country like India, and the Indian Government is on its path to significantly increase the acceptance levels of Electric Vehicles in almost every segment. Seeing multiple metropolitan cities taking significant measures to spread their electric charging station network, we now have other cities stepping in the game too! Electric Charging Stations now in Jaipur are being commissioned by the Government.
The Jaipur Development Association (JDA) has identified seventy five prospective locations in the city to set up electric vehicle charging power stations. As per the revised guidelines from the Centre Government, an organisation or an individual will now be allowed to set up charging stations without the requirement for a special license. Therefore, the JDA has decided to halt the invitation based process for private companies, called Expression of Interest (EOI), to set up, maintain and operate public charging stations in the city. Some of the identified locations in the urban regions of Jaipur to set up charging stations for electric vehicles in the city are the parkings of Central Park, Jawahar Circle, Nursery Circle (Vaishali Nagar) and SMS hospital.

As per the authorities, the guidelines are being examined and implemented in a regulated way without any compromise on the safety and reliability of the charging infrastructure in Jaipur. Electric Vehicle charging stations in Jaipur will now be set up as per the new guidelines with affordability and faster adoption in mind as the JDA didn't receive a decent response from private companies through the inviting procedure. Thus, individuals would be allowed to set up electric vehicle charging stations without a license by simply keeping up with the technical specifications, safety standards and performance parameters. Some of the organisations which have shown interest in this venture are Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Limited (REIL) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
To cope up with the affordability factor of an electric vehicle public charger, the authorities have proposed a revenue sharing based model where the government land to install the chargers and subsidised electricity until a threshold would be provided to set up these charging stations. The propositions present a model with a combination of both slow and fast chargers at a charging station. The fast charging stations will take 60 minutes to charge the vehicle and would be set up in a space of 460 square feet with a capacity at least six vehicles. The slow charging stations will take 6 hours and would be set up in a space of 800 square feet with a capacity of at least ten vehicles.
