The Hyundai Aura has created a lot of buzz in the automotive industry and why not. It looks different, comes feature-loaded and that 1.0 turbo petrol from the (heavier) Venue will result in impressive performance. But at the same time, there are buyers out in the market who want something that is easy on the pocket and hence the curiosity around the Hyundai Aura CNG. Yes, it will also be launched in 2020.
During the official preview of the Aura on 19th December, the presentation clearly mentioned that the 1.2-liter petrol engine will also have a CNG avatar. However, the exact timeline of the launch has not been stated yet. And while the car that was showcased on 19th has its interiors hidden, we will get to see that and know more about the sedan at the 2020 Auto Expo. But as we said, one thing is clear - the Hyundai Aura CNG is a reality.
The 1.2-litre unit that it uses churns out 83 PS of power and 114Nm of torque. However, when you run an engine on CNG, the output always drops. In the case of the Aura, max power will drop to 72 PS and max torque to 102 Nm. As is the case with other CNG cars, this too will take a hit on Aura's performance. ARAI certified economy of Hyundai Aura CNG is still not out but expect it to lower running costs by a huge margin.
Its fair to say that the CNG Aura will not be offered with an optional AMT and will be limited to just one or two trim levels. Other Hyundai cars that are offered with an optional CNG kit include the Santro and the Grand i10. The Xcent, in its Prime or commercial avatar is also offered one and is doing brisk business with the Ola and Uber owners of the world.
