Hyundai will launch its second sub 4m compact sedan tomorrow. The Aura is based on the Grand i10 NIOS and the product was showcased last month. However, the company did not disclose the interiors or variant wise feature list. All that will be in the open tomorrow along with version wise price break-up. Remember, the NIOS has a starting price of Rs 5.05 lakh (ex-showroom) but the Aura might not be offered with a base trim.
The Hyundai Aura is a premium alternative to the Xcent that will continue to be on sale. A major reason for this is the fact that a lot of commercial buyers opt for the Xcent under the Prime badge. Coming back to the Aura, it will be offered with BS-6 compliant engines that include a 1.2 petrol, a 1.0 turbo petrol and a 1.2 turbo diesel. Like the NIOS, the 1.2 motors will come with an optional AMT gearbox. On the other hand, the 1.0 turbo petrol is the same unit that is seen in the Venue but here, will be offered with a lower output. Nevertheless, it should make the Aura a quick and enjoyable compact sedan.
The segment is current led by the Maruti Dzire, followed by the Honda Amaze. While the Xcent is a well-rounded product, it never managed to become popular with private buyers. The Aura, however, aims to change that with its modern design, a better cabin and an extended list of features. Also, the Aura is wider than the Xcent and has a longer wheelbase as well. This will ensure better space for passengers. While the cabin will be similar to that of the NIOS, colour theme will be different. Will this second compact sedan from Hyundai cut the cake? Our fingers are crossed!
