Hyundai showcased its global flagship electric vehicle, the Ioniq 9, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, marking its first-ever official presence in India. Hyundai Ioniq 9 Exterior: Features An Aerosthetic Design Language

Like other pure-electric Hyundai offerings, including the Ioniq 5 sold in India, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 wears the same futuristic design theme, which has been named aerosthetic by Hyundai. Having the stance of a new-age full-size SUV crossover, the Ioniq 9 has intricately designed accents all around, with the front profile having a parametric pixel theme for the split headlamps and closed grille.

With an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.259 Cd, the new Hyundai Ioniq 9 is one of the most aerodynamic SUVs in the world, evident by its curved roof line. This SUV also gets flush-type door handles, wide rear quarter glass panel and D-pillar garnish and squared contours on the fenders. The model displayed at the Auto Expo 2025 has 19-inch aero alloy wheels with EV-specific tyres.

At the back, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 has a retro essence in its appearance, with the SUV having slim parametric pixel-themed LED tail lamps on the side edges. These tail lamps are connected by a thin parametric pixel strip of LEDs above the rear windscreen.

Hyundai Ioniq 9 Interior: A Lounge-Like Experience

Showcased in a dual-tone grey-based theme, the interior of the Ioniq 9 offers a lounge-like experience never seen before in any production-spec Hyundai vehicle. The front cockpit has a curved panoramic display with two 12.3-inch full-TFT screens, while the rest of the dashboard has a floating layout with a scooped design.

The spacious three-row cabin of the Hyundai Ioniq 9 has relaxation seats in the front and second rows with fully reclinable leg rests that deliver a lounge-like seating experience for four people. The second-row seats also have a swivelling function for front-facing experience with occupants in the third row. Hyundai claims that the Ioniq 9 has a boot space of 620 litres even with third rows up, which is extendable to 1,323 litres after folding flat the third-row seats.

Hyundai Ioniq 9 Powertrain: Both RWD And AWD Available

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 will globally go on sale with two configurations an RWD setup with a 215 bhp rear-mounted motor and an AWD setup with dual motors claiming 308 bhp. However, it is not clear which of these two versions is on display at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.

Both versions of the Hyundai Ioniq 9 come with a 110.3kWh lithium-ion battery the biggest ever in any Hyundai electric car. This battery takes 24 minutes for a 10-80 per cent charge using a 350kW DC fast charger while claiming a maximum range of up to 620 km.

Verdict:

Hyundai currently has no intentions of launching the Ioniq 9 in India. However, given the positive response to the Ioniq 5 and the presence of its distant cousin, the Kia EV9, already on sale in India, Hyundai might contemplate the Ioniq 9 for the Indian market in the future.

Hyundai has put the Ioniq 9 on display at the Auto Expo 2025 to gauge public interest, and if there is a positive response, this flagship SUV might arrive in India through the CBU route. Stay tuned to 91Wheels for more updates on the Hyundai Ioniq 9.
