The much awaited premium MPV from Kia India has received an excellent response from Indians. The Carens has managed to garner as many as 7738 bookings on the first day itself. For a people mover than will be priced in the Rs 11-16 lakh bracket, this indeed is a great number. Kia had opened up the bookings for the Carens on 14th January. Prospective customers can now book this upcoming 6/7 seater offering via both offline and online means. The Carens, based on the Seltos, is a first of its kind offering that is targeted towards family buyers. It will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options and yes, both manual as well as automatic gearbox options will be on the list. These are the same gearbox / engine combinations that we see on the Seltos mid-size SUV as well. Kia is tight lipped on the pricing but its safe to assume a starting price of about Rs 11-11.5 lakh.
The Kia Carens will lock horns with rivals like the Maruti XL6 and the Mahindra Marazzo. However, it promises to offer segment unique and segment first features. Yes, a sunroof will be offered in higher trims and Kia also claims the Carens will offer segment leading passenger and boot space. The fantastic response received for the Kia Carens bookings is a testimony to the fact that we Indians are ready to pay extra for features and a good brand too.
