Mahindra XUV700 Bags Full 5-Star Score in G-NCAP Crash Test

The Global NCAP has just released a video of the Mahindra XUV700 crash tests, and the results are very self-assuring

The Global NCAP safety tests for the Mahindra XUV700 are out, and this Indian-made premium SUV has scored an outstanding 5 stars for Adult safety. The model that was tested was probably the MX variant, for the interior had the 10.25 superscreen, and there were no side curtains as well. However, it could have also been the AX3 variant. Irrespective of that, the crash tests tested the rigidity of the new XUV700s platform and if the safety equipment on-boards were deployed timely or not.

There were two tests: the Front Offset Deformable Barrier test, and the Side Impact Mobile Barrier Test. The first test required the XUV700 SUV to crash into an immovable barrier at a steady speed of 64 km/h. In the second test, a mobile barrier crashed into the XUV700 from the side, at a speed of 64 km/h. In both of these tests, the cabin of the SUV remained mostly unperturbed. There are disturbances from the impact, but its repercussion on the passengers is minimum.

In the first test, we can see the XUV700s A-Pillar remains intact, there is no trace of tension or even a crack from the impact. The sturdiness of the A-pillar soaks in most of the vibrations from the crash impact, which in turn keeps the rest of the cabin unaffected. The bonnet does break, but it does not collapse. The engine compartment falls down instead of slogging into the cabin. The dashboard with the dual-airbags deploys timely and keeps the front passenger and driver well protected. The ISOfix seats do remain in position, but the jolt from the impact does leave them a bit rattled. Precisely why, the NCAP gave them the XUV700 4 stars instead of 5 for Child Safety.

Now coming to the Side impact results, this is where the XUV700 outshines. The rigidity of the architecture, right from its roof to its door has been very well demonstrated in this crash test. With the movable barrier hitting the XUV700 from the side at a speed of 64 km/h, could barely break the door. There is obviously a sizeable dent from the impact, but since there is a good gap between the door and seats, the passengers get the benefit of not receiving the direct impact.

This data is extremely important and it proves yet again that Mahindra has not compromised with the XUV700. Aside from having a strong and rigid chassis, there are several advanced safety features like the Advanced Driving Assist System (ADAS) that get you features like emergency autonomous braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control, Blind Spot Monitoring, Driver Drowsiness Alert, and other such important features. Furthermore, top variants get the benefit of curtain airbags, besides seven airbags, instead of the standard 2- airbags in the base variants.

However, deliveries of the XUV700 have been badly affected due to the global chip shortage. In some cases, the waiting period is up to one year. So, based on that - would you still buy the Mahindra XUV700 - which also happens to be the safest SUV now? Let us know in the comment section.
