In 2017, Tata Motors launched a compact SUV, Nexon wherein the company observed that the car received a very positive response from the market. With this, Tata Motors also launched an all-electric variant, Nexon EV in 2020 which till date is hitting the sales chart. As the market trend is shifting towards electric mobility, the rise in sales of EVs can also be seen at a rise from the past year. But can an electric car be good off the road? Here is a unique Tata Nexon EV off-roading video that we came across.
This article will talk about a YouTube video uploaded by MotorZone where the driver has taken his Nexon EV for off-roading. Stay tuned to know whether it was a successful one or not.
The e-SUV has been taken to an off-roading camp that is organized by Desert Raiders Club (DRC) in Rajasthan. Tata has installed a powerful motor with multiple drive modes so let's see whether Nexon EV has off-roading capabilities or not.
Tata Nexon EV comes equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor that is capable of producing 129PS of maximum power and 245 Nm of peak torque. The company also offers two drive modes - Drive and Sports with a 30.2 kWh High energy density Lithium ion battery pack. If seen, Nexon EV is more powerful than the petrol and diesel variants as the company claims that it can cover 0-100 kmph in just 9.9 seconds whereas the petrol variants claim 11.64 seconds and the diesel one takes 13.25 seconds.
In the beginning of the patch, the Tata Nexon EV smoothly passed by. However, as the track changed its path, the front tyres of the e-SUV got stuck in sand and the driver inside was concerned whether it would be able to get out or not. A bunch of people helped the EV get out but at the same time, the driver decided not to take it any further as the off-roading patch is designed and structured for bigger 4x4 SUVs and there was a possibility that the EV might not be able to fight that sort of terrain even with the sports mode.
Tata Nexon EV is a powerful machine with a good ground clearance but the company never claimed it to be an off-roader. However, the e-SUV sports several other smart features such as regenerative braking system, hill-hold assist, Tata Motors ZConnect Application powered by iRA that allows to remotely control, connect and track your car. Other than this it features a 7-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system compatible with AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay with Harman Kardon surround sound system.
Tata Nexon EV is the best choice to go for in this price tag. The company offers various warranty packs to sooth the journey of its customers with the EV. The battery pack comes with 8 years warranty or 1.6 lakh kms whichever comes first, the overall warranty of the vehicle for 3 years or 1.25 lakh kms whichever comes first. Other additional warranty packs are also available which needs to be added at the time of purchase.
Tata Nexon EV is available in three variants and starts at Rs 14.24 lakhs (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 16.85 lakhs (ex-showroom). The e-SUV can also be fast charged from 0-80% in just 60 minutes whereas the regular charger takes around 8.5 hours to charge from 10% - 90%.
