Tata Safari Petrol Engine Coming Soon

Tata Safari and Harrier sibling have been in the market for quite sometime now with timely updates, be it cosmetic or feature-wise. However, there has been one thing that is dearly missed. It is the availability of a petrol mill,m especially when the Delhi NCR region has a deadline of 10 years attached to the diesel vehicles. However, the Safari has been spied testing again in its petrol guise under heavy camo. This in-house developed petrol mill is likely to launch in July this year with both the Harrier and Safari options. As for other updates, it is likely to be a copy of the current diesel model with no further visual or in-cabin updates, apart from the expectations of new upholstery.

As for the specifications, the new 1.5L petrol engine from Tata, which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2023, and will churn out impressive figures of around 168 bhp power and a 280 Nm of peak torque with options for 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. This same powertrain is likely to do duty on the upcoming Tata Sierra as well. But remember that this new engine would not prove a little heavy on the pockets as it will offer a little lower efficiency than the diesel mill. But we will have to wait until the final figures are out and see if Tata is tuning it to offer a better economy.

Powertrain Options

The Tata Safari and Harrier both utilize a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine, which delivers 170Ps power and 350 Newton-meters of torque. Drivers have the choice between a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
Verdict
The upcoming Tata Safari and Harrier in petrol options could help in reviving the sales number that Tata hoped to achieve. As for the launch date, while it is likely to debut in July at a lower price range than the diesel mill, it remains to be seen how the engine is tuned and how frugal it can be. Because if the efficiency is not upto the mark, it could put off some potential buyers.
