Since the spy shots of the Citroen C3 Aircross were out, it garnered enough attention as a new Creta rival was entering the market. While we will cover this aspect some other time, there is one more important thing to talk about. Yes! How is the Citroen C3 Aircross different than the C3 on which it is based? Apart from the size, of course. A lot of you might also have this question mark looming inside your head.
Let us turn it into a full stop as we get into the differences between these two cars from the French carmaker.
1. Extra Seats On The Citroen C3 Aircross
It was touted as the 7-seater SUV from Citroen, and that's what separates the two, apart from more differences in the list. The Aircross gets an extra row of 2 seats. The Aircross however can be opted for both in a 5-seater as well as a 7-seater option.
What's even more interesting is that these seats are completely removable. And that too, with ease. This nifty modular structure makes it a more appealing proposition for the big family market.
2. Longer Wheelbase- Actually The Longest In-Segment
The Citroen C3 Aircross is the car with the longest wheelbase in its segment of compact SUVs. That is surely the case here as well. It is 300 mm longer than the younger cousin C3, while the wheelbase difference is 100mm.
This is the bigger 3-row cousin of the standard C3.
3. Features On The Inside
While the Aircross misses out on quite a few features that are in trend nowadays, just like the Citroen C3, it gets a few more as well. For starters, it gets a 7-inch fully digital driver's display and roof-mounted rear ac vents. Apart from this, the features list is identical to that of the C3. Manual ac, 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay, and a rear camera.
4. Powertrain Employed On The Citroen C3
Citroen offers the C3 hatchback with two petrol engine options: a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated unit (82PS/115Nm) and a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine (110PS/190Nm). While the former gets a 5-speed MT, the latter comes with a 6-speed MT.
Meanwhile, the C3 Aircross has been introduced in a sole 1.2 liter Turbo Petrol option. The same that works on the C3 hatch. It currently is mated to a 6-speed Manual but is expected to come with an Automatic transmission down the road.
VERDICT- The new Citroen C3 Aircross sits between the C3 Hatchback and the C5 Aircross. These 3 are all the options from the French carmaker at the moment in India. While both C3 hatch and Aircross share a lot of features, they are quite different, with size being the most obviously noticeable. The starting price for the C3 Aircross is expected to stay around the 9 lakh rupees mark. It remains to be seen how the launch of this 3-row compact SUV pans out in the future against the segment leading Hyundai Creta.
