The Swedish Luxury carmaker Volvo is renowned all over the world for making one of the safest cars present out there in the market. Around a decade back, the car manufacturer announced its aim to achieve zero fatalities in Volvo cars from 2020. Since then, Volvo has been continuously working on evolving car safety and redefining industry standards beyond. It's now 2020 and the carmaker has just announced that all new Volvo Cars from now onwards will have a top speed limited to 180 kmph and the cars will also get Care Key to set additional limitations.

Volvo has announced that all its new cars across the globe will now come with a top speed limited to just 180 kmph. The carmaker believes that the introduction of these safety features in its cars will help in cutting down on serious injuries and can eventually also help in achieving its aim of zero serious injuries and fatalities in traffic from Volvo cars. Moreover, apart from the speed cap, the carmaker also announced that every Volvo car will now come with a Care Key.
The Volvo Care Key will allow the Volvo drivers to set additional limitations on their car's top speed in addition to the 180 kmph top speed limited by the car manufacturer. This feature can be very helpful if you are lending your car to some other family members or your friends or to other younger and inexperienced drivers. Volvo believes that the 180 kmph speed limitation and the Care Key will underline Volvo Cars position as a worldwide leader in safety and will also send a strong signal about the dangers of speeding.
Commenting on the same, Malin Ekholm, head of the Volvo Cars Safety Centre said, We believe that a carmaker has a responsibility to help improve traffic safety, He further added, Our speed-limiting technology, and the dialogue that it initiated, fits that thinking. The speed cap and Care Key help people reflect and realise that speeding is dangerous, while also providing extra peace of mind and supporting better driver behaviour.
Volvo also says that their decision to cap the top speed of the cars to just 180 kmph has been quite controversial with some observers questioning the rights of the company on imposing such limitations through available technology. However, Volvo believes that above certain speeds, the in-car safety technology and infrastructure is no longer enough to avoid severe injuries and fatalities in the event of an accident. Thus, as a pioneer in the car safety department, it did a great job as ultimately they can save people's lives even at the cost of losing potential customers.
