Interior
The BMW i5 is actually the real 5 Series, the one we've all been reading about for decades. The current G80, which comes to India with an extended wheelbase as standard, doesn't drive like a typical BMW at all, in fact, it barely has that character in its veins. It's too focused on delivering a comfortable ride to match what the E-Class, its main rival, offers. Here, the i5, with its AWD setup, 601 hp, and standard wheelbase, brings back exactly that feeling. It's sharp, progressive, and makes you fall in love with driving all over again. That said, it is genuinely expensive, and being electric, the claimed range of 516 km feels a bit short by today's standards. So this one's really made for a select few, people willing to trade the price and everything that comes with it, just to experience this ultimate driving machine.

Pros & Cons of i5

What we admire in this car

Built for enthusiasts who want M performance with electric power

0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, top speed of 230 km/h

Gets rear-wheel steering, M Sport brakes, and adaptive suspension

M-specific interior touches like Veganza leather and a red steering wheel marker for centre position

DC fast charging takes it from 10-80% in just 30 minutes

What could have been better

Costs significantly more than the standard 5 Series and even its own LWB version

The LWB version of the i5 has a claimed range of 669 km, against 516 km for this one

Gets comparatively less boot space than its ICE counterpart

Should I buy the i5?

If you want a serious performance sedan with technologies like AWD, rear wheel steering, 795 Nm of torque, all in an electric powertrain, then BMW i5 M60 is the car that will satiate your desires. This is the electric equivalent of BMW M5 as it comes with several M specific changes, in order to elevate the fun to drive quotient. Buy this for all these factors, plus the eloquent interior and driving feel of the brand 5 Series.
