The sub-4-meter sedan space has been largely monopolized in a way by a single model, which is the Maruti Dzire, and the rivals have failed to replicate the magnitude of its success, even after a great push by their makers. Staking its claim for the spot is the Hyundai Aura sedan, which got its facelift a while back. After this section goes over its Pros and Cons, you will be in a better position to see if this is a worthy rival to the Dzire or not. 1. A Feature Fest
Hyundai as a brand, is known for its feature-rich cabins and the Hyundai Aura is no different. With its higher SX and the SX(O) trims, it offers a range of modern features like TPMS, Cruise control, Fast USB-C charger, wireless charging, cooled glove box, auto headlamps, rear AC vents, fully automatic climate control, and much more. On top of this, it comes with 6 airbags as standard as well, taking it's safety quotient to the next level.
2. Mid-Spec Variant Offers Great Value For Money
The mid-range S and SX trims of the Aura sedan, priced at Rs.7.33 lakhs and Rs. 8.09 lakhs respectively, provide a comprehensive set of features, making them a strong value proposition. The S trim comes equipped with TPMS, a day/night rearview mirror, steering-mounted controls, four speakers, LED daytime running lights, a rear seat armrest, rear AC vents, a height-adjustable drivers seat, and more. The SX trim enhances this with automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system, projector headlights, a reverse parking camera, and alloy wheels.
3. CNG Option Available
The Hyundai Aura offers a CNG option with the 1.2L Kappa petrol mill, which is another working factor that the Aura has going for it. Since people are going for CNG vehicles more and more, thanks to their improved fuel economy and lower running costs, having the option of a factory-fitted CNG kit is always a better option for safety and reliability.
CONS
1. No Diesel Or Turbo Petrol
Considering the fact that diesel engines have been phased out of the sedan space already, and none of its rivals offer it, the omission of a turbo petrol cannot be missed. While, again, none of its rivals offer this as well, I feel there should be an option for those who are looking for something more from their family-friendly rides. The Hyundai Aura only comes with a 1.2L Kappa petrol engine that puts out 83PS power@6000 rpm with a peak torque of 113.8 Nm available at 4000 rpm. These figures will leave the enthusiasts wanting more when the pedal is pushed all the way down. And if you are going for the CNG trims, good luck, as the performance figures drop down to 69PS power and 95.2 Nm of torque, a typical for CNG mills.

2. Front Seat Comfort Compromised By These Factors
Hyundai Aura comes with adjustable headrests for the rear passengers, but surprisingly, the front seats come with a fixed headrest, which is a bit of a bummer. On top of this, you get a rear center armrest while again missing it out for the front seats. This is something that I feel is a big miss considering you will be spending most of your time in the front seat ( Only if you are not being chauffeur-driven around!) Both these combined deprive you of the custom comfort that could have been easily incorporated.
3. CNG Trims Offer Poor Boot Space
Just recently, Hyundai launched the Grand i10 NIOS with dual-cylinder tech that saves on boot space, but the Aura is still to get this arrangement. While Tigor offers dual cylinders for CNG, Aura still offers a not-so-good luggage space with a full-size CNG tank. However, it is soon expected to come with this space-saver set-up like the Exter and the Grand i10 NIOS.
Verdict
The Hyundai Aura is a very-well balanced compact sedan that is still to get its due appreciation. With robust dafety features and a slew of modern tech, this has the potential of rising to the ranks of the top, but I feel that the front seat comfort is something that holds it back from that accomodating experience that buyers generally experience with its rivals. However, this is something easy to rectify and I hope we will be witnessing it much sooner than expected.
