Maruti Suzuki has finally unveiled its highly anticipated eVX, now officially named the eVitara. Set to launch around May 2025, key specifications have already been revealed. Once available, the eVitara will compete with cars like the MG ZS EV, BYD Atto 3, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
However, in May, its biggest competitor will be the Tata Curvv EV, the coupe SUV that has been selling in impressive numbers since its September launch. Maruti e Vitara VS Tata Curvv EV - Dimensions
It is too early to comment on the eVitara looks, but for starters, in photos, it does appear muscular and bossy. This design will definitely appeal to Indians, as we prefer vehicle designs that dominate the roads. That is why the Thar and Fortuner are extremely popular here.
On the other hand, I have seen the Tata Curvv EV on the road, and I have to say, it has a completely unique shape and a commanding road presence. Whether it is on public roads or the highway, hard not to take your eyes off it. Now on to, there dimensions:
Dimensions | Maruti e Vitara | Tata Curvv EV |
Length | 4,275 mm | 4,310 mm |
Width | 1,800 mm | 1,810 mm |
Height | 1,635 mm | 1,637 mm |
Wheelbase | 2,700 mm | 2,560 mm |
Ground Clearance | 180 mm | 193 mm |
So, the figures are out, and the Tata Curvv EV takes the lead here. However, despite being shorter in length, the e Vitara has a wheelbase that is longer by almost 140 mm, which translates to more legroom and a more airy interior.
One major issue with the Curvv EV's interior is its low headroom space in the second row, along with a floorboard that is too high, creating an uncomfortable seating position. The Maruti e Vitara will likely not have a headroom issue, but how it handles the floorboard height remains to be seen.
Maruti e Vitara vs Tata Curvv EV - Battery Packs
Both EVs have two battery packs, one for standard range and the other for long range. However, Suzuki has yet to announce the range figures. On the other hand, the Tata Curvv EV's range, as per MIDC Part 1 and Part 2 tests, is out: it offers 502 km of range with the 55 kWh battery pack and 430 km with the 45 kWh battery pack.
The e Vitara big advantage is that it will be offered in 4WD drivetrain, which Suzuki is calling 'ALLGRIP-e'. Now on the the power figures derived from each motor.
Maruti e Vitara
Battery Pack | 49 kWh | 61 kWh (2WD) | 61 kWh (4WD) |
Power | 144 PS | 174 PS | 183 PS |
Torque | 189 Nm | 189 Nm | 300 Nm |
Gearbox | Single speed electric drive | Single speed electric drive | Single speed electric drive |
Tata Curvv EV
Battery Pack | 45 kWh | 55 kWh |
Power | 150 Ps | 167 Ps |
Torque | 215 Nm | 215 Nm |
Gearbox | e-CVT (4 steps) | e-CVT (4 steps) |
Maruti e Vitara vs Tata Curvv EV - Price
The Curvv EV starts at Rs 17.49 lakh, and the top trim with the 55 kWh battery pack costs Rs 22 lakh ex-showroom. Early reports suggest that the eVitara will start around Rs 19 to 20 lakh, with the top-spec 61 kWh battery pack and 4WD starting at Rs 25 lakh. These are just rumours, but they are insightful. If true, it could become difficult for Maruti to match the top-spec variant's pricing. Let's wait to comment further on these speculations.

Verdict
Maruti Suzuki vs Tata in a battle for the EV market, and this is one of the most interesting scenarios in the Indian automotive industry. Yes, Tata is ahead and offers a range of electric cars, with the Tiago EV being the best-selling electric car in the country. But now, India's biggest car manufacturer is stepping in, and things will be completely different from anyone's expectations. For that, we'll have to wait and see how it turns out.
