Maruti Suzuki eVitara Vs Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Toyota has finally come up with the electrified Urban Cruiser EV. It is essentially a rebadged Maruti Suzuki eVitara and another outcome of the Maruti-Toyota collab. Toyota showcased the Urban Cruiser EV back in 2023 and the brand has now announced that it will make its global debut in mid-2025. Maruti Suzuki eVitara Vs Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Exterior
Both eVitara and Urban Cruiser EVs are similar in size, which is expected since they share the same platform. It's likely that this model will be produced at Marutis Gujarat facility, alongside the e-Vitara. However, unlike other models from Toyota and Suzuki in the 'crossover' category, the Urban Cruiser EV features a distinct front design that ensures a clear visual distinction between the two cars.
The e-Vitara features a more complex front design with multiple bumper elements. On the other hand, the Urban Cruiser EV adopts a simpler, more streamlined look. From the side profile, both vehicles are identical including the rear door handle placement and alloy wheel design. Coming to the rear design, both are similar, with the only difference being the taillamp patterns.

Although the exterior shows some variations, the interior remains largely identical in terms of design and layout. The main distinction lies in the colour schemes: Toyota has chosen an all-black theme, while Suzuki offers a dual-tone option. However, it's unclear whether the dual-tone scheme will be available across all variants or markets.

Both models will come equipped with dual digital screens, climate control with rear AC vents, connected car tech, a JBL sound system, a 360-degree camera, a powered driver seat, and a HUD. European markets, where the cars will make their debut will also feature Level 2 ADAS as standard.
On the safety front, the Urban Cruiser EV features six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounting points and ABS with EBD. The India spec version will get all these safety features except for the Level 2 ADAS technology.
Maruti Suzuki eVitara Vs Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Powertrain
The Urban Cruiser EV gets the same battery options as the eVitara which includes a 49 kWh and 61 kWh unit. The smaller 49 kWh pack is capable of producing 142 bhp and 189 Nm while the bigger one with FWD configuration generates 172 bhp and 189 Nm whereas the AWD version makes 181 bhp and 300 Nm. We are expecting all three versions to be available in India.
Expected Price and India Launch
Both these EVs will make it to India somewhere between Rs. 20 lakh to 26 lakh. keeping the trend alive, Toyota will price its version higher than the eVitara. Once launched, these EVs will lock horns with the Kia Carens EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the upcoming Honda Elevate EV.

Verdict
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, while sharing much with the Maruti Suzuki eVitara, stands out with its distinct styling and brand appeal. While both cars offer impressive features and powertrains, Toyota's version may come at a premium. With strong competition from rivals like the Kia Carens EV and MG ZS EV, itll be interesting to see how it performs in India.
