MG Windsor EV Vs Mid-size SUVs Base Model: Upfront and Running Costs
MG Windsor EV Vs Mid-size SUVs: Upfront Cost
The MG Windsor EV has been launched at Rs. 9.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom) in India. In comparison, a normal mid-size SUV starts at Rs. 11 lakh (ex-showroom). In Windsor's case as well, the 9.99 lakh is an introductory price and it will be increased once the period ends. Usually, the EVs come with a higher price tag when compared with the ICE vehicles. The disparity in the upfront cost of EV and ICE vehicles is the main reason most buyers don't prefer shifting towards electric vehicles.
MG Windsor EV Vs Mid-size SUVs: Running Cost
While launching the Windsor EV, MG announced that they would be charging Rs 3.5 per km as a cost of the battery if a customer purchases the CUV under the Unique Ownership Program. In comparison, a normal mid-size SUV provides an average mileage ranging between 11-13 kmpl which turns out to be an average running cost ranging between Rs. 8-9 plus all other expenses such as maintenance and servicing costs, taking the final amount to Rs. 10 per km.
MG Windsor EV running cost
- Battery per km: Rs. 3.5 (excluding GST)
- Charging facility: Rs 1 (free for the first year of purchase)
- Other miscellaneous charges: 0.25 Paisa
- Total Expense: Rs. 3.75 or Rs. 4 if we round off
Government Incentives on EVs
The Indian government has taken various initiatives to reduce the upfront cost of EVs. These include schemes such as FAME subsidy which has played a major role in incentivizing EV buyers their purchase. Several states offer substantial subsidies to promote EVs that significantly reduce the upfront cost. Some states also provide free registration or no road tax on EVs. So, you can also get some added benefits with the EVs along with the nominal upfront cost. We suggest you check for the aforementioned incentives in your state before making the purchase.
EVs have Nominal/Low maintenance Cost
Another major advantage of EVs is their lower maintenance cost than ICE vehicles. This is majorly because of the fewer moving components in the EVs. In comparison, the ICE vehicles need to be properly investigated at a fixed frequency. Some primary maintenance expenses include engine oil, and oil filters which EVs don't require. All in all, EVs are a much better option when it comes to maintenance and running costs.
MG Windsor EV Vs Mid-size SUVs: Space and Driving Experience
The all-new MG Windsor offers business-class level comfort inside the cabin with 175-degree multi-setup reclinable aero lounge seats. Even the seats on offer are more comfortable than the entry-level variants of some of the top-selling mid-size SUVs in India. In addition, the EVs operate silently with no noise and vibrations and they get a standard automatic transmission that really enhances the driving experience in the real world.
