Pros
1. 4-Star GNCAP Safety Rating
The Tata Tiago is one of the safest hatchbacks in its class with a 4-star GNCAP safety rating. This is also an interesting feat as the Tiago offers just a dual airbags set-up across its variants, which indicates a higher rating towards a much more robust body shell. Other safety features include ABS with EBD, corner stability control, rear parking assist, and more.
2. Impressive Set Of Features
Tata Tiago, in its top-spec trims XZ and XZO+ offers a really impressive set of features that definitely feels like a punch above its weight. The Tiago boasts an impressive array of features within its class. It includes projector headlamps, automatic air conditioning, steering wheel controls, a reverse parking camera, a Harman-powered 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rain-sensing wipers, adjustable front headrests, LED daytime running lights, and auto-folding side mirrors.
3. ICE, EV, And CNG: No Dearth Of Options
If you have made up your mind for a Tata Tiago, you are in for a diverse range of options. You can either go for a petrol mill or a petrol+CNG b-fuel option. Not only this, the Tiago is available in its electric avatar as well for those looking for a practical city EV.
4. Peppy Engine Performance
The 1.2L petrol mill feels peppy and on its feet when the pedal is pushed. The 86bhp engine gets you enough punch to pull the car, but the 113Nm of torque is available at the lower end of 3300 rpm making the Tiago, pretty fun to maneuver. This makes the Tiago a delight to move around.
Cons
1. Engine Refinement
Since the Tata Tiago comes with a 3-cylinder petrol engine, the refinement is something that is not its forte. The engine feels slightly noisy and the cabin does feel the vibrations in the gearbox and the steering wheel. However, it is not very intrusive, and you eventually get used to it, but some might find it, a not-so-pleasant driving feel.

2. Base Variant Is Too Basic
While I agree that it is the base trim and you have to shell out more if you want extra features, it is 2024 and I think it's time to up the game a bit. The base variant XE priced at Rs. 5.65 lakhs, misses out on a lot of things that it could have offered like power windows, central locking, day/night IRV, and a few more.
3. Tiago XT NRG Misses Out On AMT Gearbox
The Tiago NRG XT variant provides a solid mix of features relative to its cost, delivering excellent value by including many essential amenities. Its rugged design and increased ground clearance might make it an appealing alternative to smaller SUVs like the Punch or Exter for some buyers. However, it's worth noting that Tata does not offer the 5-speed AMT in the XT NRG variant, which is available in the higher XZ NRG trim. This means shelling out Rs. 1.15 lakhs more from the XT CNG manual to the XZ CNG AMT.
4. Fit And Finish Could Have Been Better
While the Tiago has a lot going for it, the interior quality and finish could have been better. More use of hard plastics and less soft-touch materials takes away the feel-good touch inside the cabin. Also at some points, the fit and finish feel a bit clumsy and could have been improved.
Verdict
The Tata Tiago is a solid contendor in the small hatchback segment that is supported by its peppy engine, a rich set of features, and not to miss, a 4-star GNCAP rating. However, when compared to its rivals, it feels a bit grunty and the in-cabin feel lacks that nice touch with jittery fits and hard plastics. Nonetheless, the Tiago is a fairly good option, and if the cons are something that you can live with, you won't be regretting your decision.
