Let's Start With The Pros Of Yamaha R15 V4
- Pure Racing Bike Looks - The version 4 or any previous version of R15 appears like it is somewhat a hard core racing bike. Although it starts at Rs 1.82 lakh ex-showroom. The V4 design is heavly inspired from the bigger R3, which is powerhouse of a motocycle. The looks have been a major point of why college going students becomes obstinates in front of their parents, to get them a R15.
- The 155cc Engine - If there's an eighth wonder of the world, the R15's 155cc engine would certainly qualify. Making 18.4 Ps and 14.2 Nm of peak torque, this engine has the capacity of not just revving hard, but also teaching a new rider how to operate a racing bike. You can take it anywhere, depending on your capability, but this engine will not disappoint.
Everybody knows how quiet and smooth it is, and when you push it, it makes your fast riding dreams come true. Also, the VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) installed since V3 expands the capabilities of this 4-stroke liquid engine.
- Great Braking Performance - 282 mm front and 220 mm rear disc brakes plus dual channel ABS, elevates the confidence of the rider. Allowing to brake hard and litreally do stunts on it. There is a reason behind why you see people driving it so rough on streets, because the R15 allows them.
- Sharp Handling - One of the paramount reasons automotive enthusiasts love this bike is its crisp handling. It handles exceptionally well and communicates effectively with the rider. The feedback is outstanding, allowing sharp turns at high speeds. It's fair to say this is one of the most affordable bikes with the best handling.
- LCD Instrument Cluster - The LCD instrument cluster was also present in the V3, but now it receives notifications and communicates with the rider. It's sizable, making it easy to read speed units even on sunny days. Additionally, there is also a track mode that records your lap time and provides information about the best lap time.
- Good Mileage - Even though it's a sports bike, you can still get a decent amount of mileage from the R15 V4. While there's no official data on the mileage, considering it's an upgrade over the V3, we can expect it to offer around 33 to 35 kmpl in the city and approximately 55 kmpl on the highway. This makes the bike economical to run and light on the wallet.
- New Features -The Version 4 introduces traction control in the R15. Some automotive experts call it a gimmick because this bike makes less than 20 Ps. However, any amount of safety tech is a better option, considering our Indian driving style.
Additionally, there's a quick shifter that allows the rider to change gears without using the clutch, ensuring a seamless driving experience. One important thing to note is, the quick shifter is available as an accessory on the Dark Knight and Metallic Red paint options.
- Build Quality - One big disappointment of the Version 3 was its poor build quality, with cheap use of plastics and bad fit and finish. The wire setup was exposed, and the rubber on the handlebars used to wear out quickly. Now, Yamaha has done its homework, and the build quality, along with fit and finish, is top-notch.
- Comfortable Seat - The seat comfort has improved, and the part close to the fuel tank has become slimmer, which solidifies its aggressive seating position. The ride height remains the same at 815 mm, but once you sit on it, you'll feel like you're sitting much lower, thanks to the magic of this new seat design.
Now On To The Cons Of Yamaha R15 V4
- No Navigation System - The LCD display doesn't come with a navigation system, which is a disappointment, because considering this bike price after all the taxes will easily reach Rs 2 lakh. Yamaha must offer this technology widely avaialble these days.
- Not Suitable For Long Rides - As mentioned above, a rider can take this bike anywhere based on their own capability, and the engine won't disappoint. However, due to its aggressive seating position, you might experience back pain and wrist discomfort after a while. Despite this, some riders even take it to Ladakh with all their luggage. So, if you can bear the discomfort, this bike can go anywhere.
- Misses out on some features - Despite feedback over the years, Yamaha still uses halogen lights for the indicators. The front looks sharp with a bi-functional LED projector headlamp, but when the indicators are on, they don't match its sporty aesthetics.
