Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is one of the premium EVs that offer sturdy build quality. However, its sales have not proven to be inspiring to the company. 2023 Bajaj Chetak Scooter - Details
Bajaj has filed for a type-approval document that contained a new Chetak scooter update. Now, this homologation has been approved by the authorities. As per the details seen in the document, Bajaj is going to offer only one variant of the Chetak. Chetak Premium is what has been approved for now. Further, the Premium variant which is code-named 2423, gets an additional 18 km of riding range. However, the rest of the technical details look similar to the current model. Meanwhile, the current model comes with two variants called - Premium & Urbane. Until now, the Premium variant is being sold as the base model.
Moreover, speaking of the update, we're also expecting Bajaj to fit more equipment into it. The updated scooter is expected to get some features revised. In fact, the addition of new variants and tech among its rivals shall push Bajaj to do so. However, its overall design and setup will remain largely unchanged. The online document also shows that its kerb weight and battery specifications will also remain unchanged. But, the riding range is now 108 km certified as per ARAI. The previous value of this was 90 km per charge (in ECO mode). Hence, the new update will help achieve more range in Sports mode as well. Meanwhile, the current range in Sports mode stands at 80 km (claimed).
Verdict
As the newly updated scooter has been homologated, its launch might not be far away. But, with the new update and probably the addition of new features; its price will take a slight hike. The current Chetak model price is Rs 1.54 lakh (ex-showroom). Its current rivals are - Ather 450X Gen 3, Ola S1 Pro, & TVS iQube.
